The other thing to keep in mind is that if we're on english sites on the net most of the userbase is usually american, if its anything big. Majority of EU has another first language other then english. So the community of fans probably won't be on the big sites.
I think a 50/50 attitude is best, honestly though i'm sure you could play this game in japanese without too much difficulty.

I was thinking that myself. I pretty much understand japanese when I hear it, the problem lies with the reading so I'd have some difficulty in menus and mid-battle when messages pop up.
If only I'd taken those damn japanese classes in high school when it was offered to me. Comes right back to bite me in the ass.

I learned Japanese in school from year 1 to year 8, I still have no idea what's going on with it. Chances are it wouldn't make a huge difference, if it makes you feel any better.

One Piece is simple. It's just "NAKAMA!" "RUFFI!" "NAKAMA DAAAAA" "GOMU GOMU!"

One of my friends has been studying Japanese for about two years now and he still has no idea what he's doing so he adviced me not to take Japanese lessons. I don't know how horrid his Japanese lessons are but he has a genuine fear of them now, I don't think it'll be long before he drops it. So I guess it does make me feel a little better. One of my uncles is fluent in japanese in speech and writing so I might ask him for a few pointers.

True dat.
If we don't hear anything in the next few months I might try my luck and get a japanese copy, after that I guess I'll just learn as I go along.

I think you could just read the original manga. It's not very advanced, and it has furigana, so if you just learn to read kana then you should be fine like that.

The most daunting thing about the language for people who speak 'Roman languages' is that there are 3(?) alphabets in Japanese, and each of them has way more characters than ours. It's probably not more difficult than other languages orally, but it'd definitely be tough to get a good grasp of written Japanese.

My uncle was kind of enough to give me a Japanese lesson this weekend, mostly kanji and a little bit of speech. I could probably study Japanese writing for 10 years and still not know what the fuck I'm doing. It was just one lesson of about two hours but I was still utterly and completely mentally exhausted by the end of it. He was impressed with how well I could speak it so I told him I haven't been watching anime since 2007 for nothing. But yeah, I don't see much hope for myself on the writing part, it's just way too confusing. Might give it another go this upcoming weekend and see how it works out.
Looks like One Piece: Pirate Warriors is leaving Japan. At Namco Bandai’s keynote press conference, a video played with flashes of One Piece: Pirate Warriors. Siliconera is at the conference, which is just beginning, and we’ll update this post with more details as soon as we get them.
Update: One Piece: Pirate Warriors is slated for release in North America and Europe in November 2012. Namco Bandai is discussing distribution plans with retailers and Sony for a digital release.
November, woohoo!

It's gonna be sweet.
Do you know the extent of the co-op? Is the story co-op or just some challenges?

Story mode is single player and you mostly play as Luffy in that. Co-op's done in Another Log mode, where you go through certain stages with other characters going through their own stories(which seem to be barely existent), and there's also a Free Mode.
