Oddly, having played the demo on both XBL and PSN, the PS3 version seems markedly inferior; the textures are slightly muddier, the colour palette in general seems a little washed out, and the frame rate is choppier, with some slowdown that isn't present on the 360 game. The PS3 and 360 versions of DMC4 were identical so I'm not sure quite what's gone wrong there.
Still, it's a lot of fun, and should be better than DMC4 on the strength of the demo.

The devs were pretty open about the 360 version being superior. Platinum Games only developed the game for the 360, because it's easier and they're a new company. Some other company came in and did a deal with them to port it to the PS3 (can't remember which one at the moment, they're logo will be on it though).

SEGA were happy to put their name on that? Ugh. Oh well. Good job I have the luxury of choice.

Well, For me, It's nice to have another hack and slash on the PS3. I don't have an X-Box.

In isolation, the PS3 game is still a cracker, it's just that side by side, you can really see the difference. The textures and colour palette are only minor graphical quibbles, but the slowdown is more annoying.

360 version got 40/40 in Famitsu, PS3 got 38/40.

Yeah, if you'd not played the 360 game I doubt you'd care, but going from one to the other, the PS3 version just looks a little... off. The closest thing I can think of is going from HDTV to an SDTV, except it's not quite that bad. On 360 everything just looks much more colourful, more vibrant, it looks much sharper, and it moves more smoothly.
Okay, I'll stop banging on about it now. Awesome game.

I have actually noticed the same. 360 games look more colourful and... alive.

I wouldn't say it's the same with all 360 / PS3 games, though there certainly was a trend a while ago for 360 games to be the lead format and the PS3 version was a port of that. I've no idea if that still holds for most games, though I do recall Nonny saying that Assassin's Creed 2 was meant to be marginally better on 360.

The PS3 has settings for colour range and stuff, which I just found out. It was set to Limited, but I changed it to Full and there is a noticeable difference, albeit small. But I do think that Bayonetta is simply better on the 360.

If it were just the colours that were the problem, you may have had a point. Sadly, messing around with set ups isn't going to anything about the slightly jumpy frame rate or seemingly lower resolution. The 360 version is just the better game in this case.

Resolution during gameplay is the same as far as I know (although I haven't played it on the 360). During the cutscenes the PS3 version doesn't look sharp at all though, like they put a bunch of filters over it.
But like I said, it was originally designed just for the 360, and the port was handled by SEGA rather than the original dev team.

I only mention the resolution because the PS3 game looks very 'jaggy' in places whereas the 360 one doesn't. Technically, the game may be at the same resolution, but you wouldn't guess it to look at them; as I said, the ps3 game almost feels like playing the game on an SDTV. The best example is coming out of the Train station, when you walk into the courtyard; it looks bloody glorious, almost photorealistic at a glance. The PS3 game the same scene is rather flat. The colours are dulled considerably, so it feels rather like an autumn day as opposed to summer in the 360, and it seems like a lot of the detail has gone. The 360 game you can see individual leaves on trees, on PS3 the foliage is just a green lump.
Maybe I'll try and take a couple of pictures on my mobile, see if I can upload them.
Basically, it's the biggest gap in performance between the PS3 and 360 for a cross-platform game ever. The PS3 version runs at around half the frame-rate of the 360 one, with less than 30 FPS not being uncommon. Everything is toned down, textures are worse, lighting is duller... It's just much shittier in comparison.

That's the level from the 360 demo that wasn't in the PS3 demo.

Yeah, the PS3 demo had another boss fight in the train station in it's place. I'm glad it wasn't just me noticing the difference in performance though. That said, isn't this out next week? Mass Effect 2 is out at the end of the month, and I can't justify two games in a month.. besides, my PS3 will start feeling unloved if I'm not careful.
