Woah, Gouken is in this game? I thought he was killed or something well before the events of SFII. Is he a bonus character or is he actually part of the story? I know story isn't exactly a big deal in the SF series but it's there at least. Damn, now I want to play this game and check him out.
Yeah, he's part of the story.
When playing as him, the anime cutscene informs us that Akuma's Raging Demon didn't kill him, but it did put him in a coma. It took him years to recover, during which time he's now perfected 'The Art of nothingness', the polar opposite to Akuma's 'Satsui no Hado' (which I'll just call the Dark Hadou), and he now assumes corrctly that the world at large believes him dead. Anyway, when you finish the game, you get a cutscene, and piecing Ryu's, Gouken's and Akuma's together gives us this;
Spoiler:
Ryu challenges Gouken, but Gouken's newly discovered power is too much for Ryu, and he passes out. Akuma approaches having sensed Gouken's awakening, and furious that Gouken is trying to interfere with his plans to turn Ryu to the Dark Hadou. Akuma then tries the raging demon on Gouken, but Gouken's power of Nothingness means that it doesn't work. Akuma remarks that this is interesting, and proposes a final duel to the death to decide who gets Ryu, who he affectionately refers to as 'the cub'. It's commented on again that Gouken and Akuma are brothers, just in case you'd forgotten.

Here's a vid of the two brothers going at it; When Akuma jumps in at the start, it's one of Gouken's new parries that knocks him back. Also, check out the Ultra moves: Gouken's gut punch, uppercut and Dragon Punch failing to put Akuma down. No mistake with the Raging Demon though!

How's M. Bison?

Bison's alright. He's much like he was in the Alpha games, only his projectile has been removed and replaced with the Pyscho Crusher from SF2 again. He's powerful enough, but I think long term play might expose him for not having too many combo openers.
Nice teleport though.
I've also just had a few online fights, and I'm glad to say they were totally, and I mean completely, lag free, unlike Soul Calibur IV. I even managed to win a few fights!
Again, further to what I said a few posts ago, regarding Zangief; he's amazing! Yes, he's slow, and he's a big target, but I just fought someone's Vega, and I was taking what I thought was a pounding, yet my health bar hardly moved. Three spinning pile drivers later, and it was over. Seriously, Zangief's a tank, he just absorbs the hits, and then wreaks havoc when he gets close. He reminds me of Juggernaut from Capcom's X-Men spin off games, especially given his ability to shrug off hits to land a special!

Just... damn! That was a pretty cool fight. Didn't last long though. Loved Gouken's super. I didn't know Gouken would be so buff though.

Gouken's Ultra is great, isn't it? I love the second hit, the uppercut. The expression on the victim's face is priceless.
As for being buff, that's part of SFIV's art style, (which I'm gradually coming around to) everyone is ridiculously over muscled. Abel's arms are so full of steroids, it's a wonder they even bothered defining a penis area for him, and even Ryu and Ken, who are martial artists, not body builders, look like they've been hitting the weights pretty hard.

makes me wonder what freakish musculature was inflicted on the leading ladies of the game...

Would anyone be interested in a few tips for the game?
There's an awful lot of stuff you can do that the game doesn't make clear, especially when it comes to the more advanced stuff like EX cancels, super cancels and Focus dashes.

Geez, Ryu looks like he's been training to enter the WWE.
Sure, any tips would be appreciated. I won't be able to apply them for a while but what the hell.

I'd like to see if I can get some video footage too, but I'm not sure I've got the necessary equipment.
Something to check for tomorrow perhaps.

You get used to them, but I still don't think they're the right kind of style for a Street Fighter game.

You might as well get it new surely? As new as it is now, a pre-owned copy would probably cost a fiver less than a new one.
