| Its because they keep trying to optimise the game for console users. That means less menus, less possible shortcut keys to use etc.
PC players who are basically the hardcore crowd get really annoyed by that. I mean i guess its not suprising there hardcore game is slowly getting more and more casual.
I'm assuming if you jumped on the series during oblivion though you'll probably like skyrim.

Fable 3 was dumbed down to the point of being insulting, that's why it got such deserved stick. Is Skyrim really that scaled down when compared to Oblivion?

| Downloaded this, with some tweaking it looks marginally better than unmodded New Vegas although the faces are significantly better than any previous Elder Scrolls or Bethesda fallout game. Will be interested to see what people accomplish with mods given time. - Spoiler:
The interface is what can only be described as shit, I gave up on using M&K and swapped to dualshock in about 5 minutes as the ridiculously convoluted wasd+arrow keys method it asks you to use is clunky and confusing at best. Can't say anything for the skill system yet but I'll try and get some thoughts down tomorrow. Other than that it plays like Oblivion with dual wielding, not really a whole lot to say. Seems decent enough though I'm not sure how it's going to stand up compared to Morrowind or perhaps even Oblivion, I'll see what the bulk of the game is like before I pass judgement.

Fable 3 was dumbed down to the point of being insulting, that's why it got such deserved stick. Is Skyrim really that scaled down when compared to Oblivion? from what i've played the leveling system is what got dumbed down a lot, but personally, i wasn't that big a fan of oblivions leveling system, mainly due to the fact that i tend to be a perfectionist in character building. they also added finishers similar to what fable has, which was ok at first but, it's quickly getting annoying. i'm still not sure how to activate these finishers either. the game also doesn't allow deep exploration at first, but, i was expecting that due to the new enemy leveling system. if you haven't read about it, the enemies have a certain starting level in different areas and raise as you do based on your level, depending on the area they can start much stronger than you but eventually you can outgrow them as their level increases starts to eventually slow in comparison to yours. also when you discover an area that areas enemy level is fixed. it feels a lot more linear because of this, which i don't like at all. when i was screwing around on the easiest difficulty a giant killed me in one hit. this wasn't too far off from my main quest objective either. i did get a chuckle when the giant killed me, since i flew really high into the air. i got the game over screen before i even started falling communicating with other people is pretty much the same as fallout new vegas as well.

You're not going to be able to max out your character, you can only get around a third of the perks by the time you max out your level including perks from quests and such. You can't make your own spells anymore which really sucks, playing a Mage in Oblivion was loads of fun just because of that. I'm also remembering how annoying it is getting armor and block skills up, why anyone thinks allowing yourself to get damaged to level up is a good system I'll never know.

| I've just seen you can become a werewolf. Haven't seen a game do that since Morrowind. I love werewolves. | |

| oh wow, apparently finished the main quest already after 20 hours of playing... guess I should've done more sidequests to artificially prolong the story a bit..
anyways, guess I'll start exploring and do all the other quests then..

| as i started to lose interest in this game, the random appearance of dragons reinforced my attention to it. defending the town was fun as hell, even if i failed to save most of the citizens and loaded a previous save to help them. | |

Dark Brotherhood is in Skyrim? Fuck yeah. there's also The Companions (see: werewolves) they're also freakishly good. and fun to play, since your melee attacks have a chance to knock the opponent sprawling (this includes larger enemies such as giants).

| seriously, this is probably one of the best games I've played in quite a long time. I have long finished the main quest already, but all these other quests are all just as interesting as the previous one. haven't had a single dull moment yet tbh. no real gamebreaking glitches either, I've had one time where it froze on me, and when I leave Solitude from the big gate I always fall through the floor but it's not gamebreaking as I can still use my map to just fast travel to where I need to be.. my save file is over 9Mb now, still no major troubles unless you play for hours on end, did a session of about 4-5 hours yesterday, and the framerate went to hell once during a dragonfight, but after that, it seemed to run perfectly smooth again.. really happy with my purchase, it being the first game I ever play in this genre and all.. | |

| http://www.bethblog.com/2011/12/01/skyrim-what-were-working-on/If this is true it's extremely impressive and a huge step forward for gaming. As usual I'm wary of Todd Howard being a filthy liar but Valve's unreliability coming from timing, not the actual product, so I have hope. Previously, particularly with Bethesda games, modding has been somewhat fiddly and at times downright confusing to anyone not using a community made guide, if we end up with a 1-click modding system like this claims to be it will eliminate any claims of things being "too hard" when compared to consoles and hopefully bring some more people round to the platform. All PC copies of Skyrim have Steam functionality so you're looking at one click to install, a second click (multiplied by the number of mods) to mix up your game and a third click to start playing. | |
