is co-op seperate from story entirely?

No, co-op uses the story and side episodes, with all the cutscenes popping up and everything.

Yesterday, I was replaying some levels for secret coins, and I noticed a bad glitch in the second level where, if you play as anyone other than Luffy(who would then be a friendly AI), you can't beat the stage. The last part involves your group running back to the Sunny, but Luffy just derps out and stays put. Hell, if he somehow gets moved by being attacking enemies or something, he freaking walks slowly back to the starting point of that segment instead of being snapped out of that.

Smoker seems just as fun/strong as Ace was in the first game, I might stick with him unless one of the million characters I don't have unlocked is cooler.

Y'know, I never really used Eneru much outside of crew strike, but recently I've been playing as him and he is freaking godly. His speed and damage. Dayum. Also, Kuma's SSST is glorious.

What exactly is the difference between Pirate's Log and Free Log?

I think that one just lets you use any character you want since Pirate's Log prevents you from using certain people depending on the stage.

Is there a trick to getting certain coins? I've been trying to get a silver Electric Guitar for ages by doing Luffy's Crew Log with a Character Items map, which together should boost my chances of getting straw hat related items, and it's just not happening. Kinda preferred the old skill system.

Try Brook's crew log with the related items map.

Tried that, normal and hard give bronze coins and super hard gives golds.

Hmm. I never bothered checking this, but what about using that map item which lets you get the same coin you already own? Since I never used it, I'm not sure if that means the EXACT same coin with the same respective bronze/silver/gold quality as the original one you selected, or if it just means the same person/item/etc. If it's the latter, you could try that and see if it nets you a silver one.

You could also look at various stages' coin information(by pressing R1 or L1 when highlighting a level in the stage select screen) to see which one has a higher drop rate for a particular coin type. So you could keep farming ones that have a higher chance at dropping a lot more item coins while using the character items map and such.

The same coin map gives you the exact same one sadly, I used it to get my max-stat coin setup really quickly. And yeah, that's what I was pretty much doing before as Luffy's Log gives a higher chance for Straw Hat coins. I believe the Electric Guitar is tagged with Straw Hats, Items and Devil Fruit Users though so I could try a DF map instead.

How so? You shouldn't be paying any attention to the 'story'.

I need to play the story to unlock the myriad of characters, but I expect that. My problem is the hud has significantly more shit in it and coins are still around. Like fucking seriously, why are coins still around?

Oh I just meant the stupid plot, the story missions are fine. Coins are just there to gate your access to the better skills I guess. It's dumb but you can probably just ignore it and slap any old thing in until you get around to playing on Super Hard, at which point you should have more than enough coins to choose from anyway.
