| So far it's pretty fun. The combat can be hectic, and not really the good kind of hectic. Because it's working on shooter controls, you have to aim before using your powers, which zooms the camera right over your shoulder, limiting your field of vision. Which works in shooters, but when you're taking on a group that have spread out all around you it can be annoying. Especially since every low-life punk enemy in the game appears to be a military trained sniper. Even the basic grunt enemies can shoot you from the top of a building down the other end of the street you're on. All of which is not helped at all by the stupid blood-spatters-on-the-screen-instead-of-a-life-bar method of keeping track of your health.
Cole flapping his arms and legs about like a spastic monkey when he's running around isn't helping me to take him seriously either. The animation and general floaty feeling is something I'm not sure will ever seem natural. Cole just doesn't have a good sense of weight or mass like, for example, Alex Mercer does. I also don't like that being evil (I'm being all evil the first time through) means I have to be monochrome. There is literally no colour on the character anymore.
But generally everything works, and it is fun. The graphics are nice too, the lighting especially. The game makes a point of putting in dark environments where the only source of light is yourself every now and again. The framerate is ever so slightly choppy, but I didn't notice it until it suddenly upped to 60fps for a brief moment when nothing was going on and every movement was suddenly silky smooth.
So, yeah. Good game. | |

- So, yeah. Good game. But not as good as Prototype.
I actually played the demo again recently, and the controls just annoyed me so much I spent about ten minutes with it, then deleted it.

| A grab button would be useful. Having Cole just grab anything close by while in the air can be a bit annoying. | |

Is the worst part of the game imo.

| Well there's 3 islands, and I'm on the second on at the moment. The first thing you have to do is restore the electricity to whatever part of the island you're in (so that you can recharge by drawing power from electrical equipment) which is always done with a sewer mission to get to the main power supply. Those are the dark areas with all the cool lighting. Each one usually restores power to about 1/3 of the island.
There's a bunch of side quests for each island. It's the usual stuff for the most part. Timed races, kill a bunch of guys, etc. There's also good and bad side quests, 5 of each for each island. When you finish one of these, it increases your Good/Evil gauge, depending on which one you do, and the corresponding opposite mission gets locked out. So each time I do an evil side quest a good side quest vanishes. But it doesn't really matter since you have to be all evil or all good to unlock to top abilities. Completing a side quest also liberates a part of the island. Each island has it's own gang you have to fight off, and doing side quests stops them appearing in the immediate surrounding area. So doing all the side quests means the island becomes almost completely peaceful. Some enemies still show to stop it being too boring, but very few.
By distractions around town, I assume you mean collectibles, in which case there's dead drops and blast shards. Dead drops are little tapes made by some guy you're looking for, and basically give a little bit of inside story. Blast shards are bits of... stuff that got blown over the city in the explosion. Collecting enough adds another bit to your energy bar. Also as your run around there's little "points of interest", which is usually a newscast or some guy on TV badmouthing you (I assume if I was being heroic he'd be praising me). But sometimes a person will run up to you and ask you to help someone or take out some bad guys. It's not a proper side quest, it just happens sometimes, which is pretty neat.

| that sounds pretty cool
how about enemy variety? and are teh enemies or bosses challenging
one thing missing from prototype were the giant robots in hulk UD and i gotta admit it was something that i really missed that was one of my fave parts of hulk UD no real reason why they couldn't have had some similar villains in it

| Doesn't seem to be a lot of variety so far. It can be challenging simply because you die pretty easily for a superhero. There's a different gang on each island, with a few different types of gang member. Basic grunts that just shoot you, ones with shields, and beefy ones with rocket launchers. There's ones that run at you and explode, which can kill in one hit if they succeed. They blow up when you kill them too, so you'll still die if you kill them too close. Luckily you get a knock back technique so it's easy to deal with them. You also get a few with miniguns or sat at a gun turret.
Each gang appears to have it's own type of Conduit as well, which are tougher ones with powers. The Reaper's (first gang) conduit can fire a shock wave along the ground and teleport. Can't remember the name of the second gang, but they're a bunch of homeless garbage people or something, and their Conduits release little crab things that run around quite fast and explode when you kill them. The little also appear on their own, bursting out of piles of bin bags at random.
Not sure if that's it or if there'll be some bigger miniboss type enemies further along. There's been one proper boss so far, and she was pretty dang easy.

| It's annoying that there's no proper stat screen. I have to just check my save file to see how much stuff I've collected. | |

| Just finished restoring power to the second island and unlocked the last power, which was a shield. Finally a defensive ability, although repelling rockets with the shockwave would count too I suppose. Still got a few more upgrades to buy, but none of them seem particularly great. Starting to wish I'd been good, those powers seem a bit more varied. | |

| Oh, and there's trash golems now too, so there are mini-boss type enemies. Takes a while to bring them down. Just checked the power screen, and it seems there's actually one more power to unlock. | |

| You have one power left to unlock via story, but you can also get the Gigawatt Blades for free off the PSN. Not that they're worth any upgrade points, but meh. The good powers are better imo. Evil makes a whole lot of stuff explode, but good is a lot more precise. You can hit enemies behind cover with the 'rocket' power by shooting it up in the air and firing a normal shot at the enemy. | He's right. Evil powers are technically more powerful, good powers are more accurate. | |

| Those trash golems are piss easy now I can guard that rapid fire thing they do, especially with the upgrade that regains energy whenever you block stuff. Gun turrets are weak as shit now too. I can just run straight at them and melee the guy.
As far as just rampaging around destroying shit, Prototype beats this game hands down. The controls and powers are much better suited to giant reckless carnage. I do like the platform-ey elements of this game though. But I really wish power sliding on rails and wires was optional, like if there was a button to push. Simply running along them gave you much more control over your dismount.
Oh, and that protect the bus mission was very aggravating.

I'll say. The evil upgrades for the shock grenade make it stupidly inaccurate.

| The difficulty of this game seems somewhat skewed. After two boss fights now, it seemed a hell of a lot easier to beat them than to take down a group of 7 or 8 normal enemies and a Conduit or two. Especially on the third island. | |

| It's because Cole's powers beyond the electrical stuff are pretty vague. He can leap from any height without getting hurt at all, but bullets tear him to pieces. Basically guns are your biggest problem because they're faster than any other attack, have more range than any other attack, are more rapid than any other attack, and just about every enemy has one. Whereas bosses and Conduits tend to waste time with flashy stuff that's pretty damn slow and easily avoidable. | |
