That's great. I never got to play 1 and 2.

I've never played any of them beyond demos. This sounds intriguing.

I think I'll wait until I've played Yakuza 4 and Of the Dead.

Each game has loads of references to the old games.

Buu made me want to play this series and the only way I was gonna do it was if I could start with the first ones on the PS2. I'm excited for some Jap beat 'em up shenanigans.

Are these still worthwhile titles? As I said previously, I've played nothing outside of demos of Y3 and Y4, though I'm aware the original games may have aged poorly and therefore reflect badly on later entries in the series.

1 will be clunky as hell compared to 3 and 4, though if you're more interested in the story, then yes

1 has the best story IMO. So in that sense is well worth playing.

2 on the other hand controls fine and has some really nice options in general, I really liked the boss fights. 3 is head and shoulders above it and i think is just the best instalment in the series.

I'd play them all TBH, i'm rebuying these.

3 and 4 are really cheap now... do I miss much by going straight into them and missing 1 & 2?

a few easter eggs and possible jokes but nothing major story wise. both have summary recaps to previous installments.

it might be a chore to play backwards though, as the combat mechanics improve between games. especially if you play 3 and 4 before 1

Definitely play in order 1 will be awful after 3. PLus the story and jokes will be really missed out
