You know what sucks about Final Fantasy XIII the most?

Playing as a Jap trash angsty chick is one thing, I mean that's not even THAT bad.

But a chick who's a ranga? Does Japan not know that red heads are unlikable souless creatur- oh wait, it's SE. That fits their characters' descriptions perfectly.

Grid leveling is the worst because it made the game too easy as hell in FFX.

especially if you got those warp spheres

I decided to beat this as I was about half an hour from the final boss when I last saved 3 years ago. Little did I know that said final boss can cast Death and if your party leader dies you get a game over. This is definitely well designed.

The final boss is an asshole, yeah.

as with all FF games, if you do some of the sei'th? stones (side missions) you will be rediculously over powered for it. Still one of the best looking games on ps3 imo

The ability to grind to overcome challenges does not excuse terrible game design.

i wouldnt say its an ability to grind.. some of them stones are harder than the boss although none iirc can cast death

It took me some time, but fiddling with paradigms got him down for me. You've basically got to Sentinel the entire group every time he's about to do something bullshit and then heal afterwards. He still has bullshit attacks after that, but it helps a bit. He is admittedly a pretty asshole boss.

Yeah I've got my strategy down, the only problem is Death. Seriously, it's just a downright cheap mechanic as you're literally relying on luck to not get a game over.

I'd probably hate the characters too much to push through it.

The fact that I had to spend all my money upgrading an accessory just to reduce the chance of getting instakilled by Death speaks volumes about how JRPGs work these days.

Most JRPGs these days are pretty terrible. I'd only really say Xenoblades and FFXIII manage to not fall under the problems most of them have, which is funny since FFXIII has a JRPG final boss.

Is Xenoblade worth playing? I have it all set up, it looks almost as good as Wind Waker does when emulated which is very impressive, but I've only played an hour or two of it.

Xenoblade's really good at both being and not being a JRPG. It gives you enough side quests for your completionist itch if you need to scratch it, but it's also not overbearing on shit so you can complete it at your own pace, without a lot of stupid gimmicks.

I've heard Xenoblade is actually really good, but I've never played it.

I have a hard time playing it consistently because I'm so burned out on RPGs, but it is really good, I guarantee.

The autobattle is annoying is fuck. Snows grenade does more damage then his melee and has spalsh damage yet the autobattle consistently think his attack is a better choice. I think i'm going to avoid it.

Vanille has literally the most grating voice i've ever heard.
