| Just finished Skypiea, and bugger me if I wasn't almost cheering when Luffy finally rang that bell. I still don't hink much of Enel, as a villain he's well below Crocodile and I totally called Luffy's invulnerability to electricity.
AS for everyone "dying" mid arc... yeah, havinh everyone get up with minor scuffs at the end kinda sells the accomplishments short.

| Skypiea's done and dusted, but I have one question that needs answering. - Spoiler:
Just who the hell was it that repaired Going Merry when Usopp saw that figure in the fog hammering away? Nothing's been mentioned since then, and I hate little mysteries like that going unresolved.
If it's mentioned later, I'm cool with that, I just want to know that it does get closure.

| I've had a bit of a blitz and... - Spoiler:
I've just powered through the Water Seven and Enies Lobby arcs in the space of 24 hours. Water seven was a bit flat, but Enies Lobby was fantastic, I loved Robin's backstory and the fights were great. The send off for Going Merry was terrific too. I didn't realise I gave a shit about their ship until it was too late... I might have even a little lump in my throat when they said goodbye... I've also been introduced to Luffy's father and grandfather... to be honest, that caught me on the hop, not because I thought he shouldn't have them, but because I'd already assumed that Gol. D. Roger and Hogwarl D. Saul were going to be related to Luffy somehow. Incidentally, Saul's name seems to change every time he's mentioned, so I'm unsure what his name should be. (Bellamy was translated as Binami in the fanslations, for instance). Question though; Luffy sudenly pulls Gear Second and Gear Third from nowhere. I know he'd previously said he had a new attack to try out, but his fight with Lucci seemed to rely almost entirely on his new Gears. Did I miss another foreshadow, or does he really pull them out of nowhere?

| Its Jaguar D Saul. - Spoiler:
I think luffy says something like watching them taught him something. Also lucci says how gear second works IIRC.

| - Spoiler:
So Luffy got the idea of Gear second from observing the CP9? I know Lucci mentioned how it works, I just wasn't sure where Luffy pulled it from.
Speaking of which, hey there's gear second in your sig! I've spent years wondering what Luffy was doing there...

| - Spoiler:
In the blueno fight (guy with door door fruit), he says he sees them kicking the floor multiple times (this must be in the soru technique) he then immitates this to move at high speeds. I kinda jumped to the conclusion pumping blood faster through his body was the only way to achieve this kind of movement. But i dunno if its better explained in the manga.
Thats pretty much the only indication that i can think of hinting at luffy learning a new technique he also might mention on the train that he had thought of something, in a fairly forgetable bit of dialogue.
I also considered soru to be similar to captain Kuro's technique, although he seems to not have the eyes to keep up with his own movement.
Yep absolutely love that whole bit, fortunately the sig menas nothing if you haven't seen the scene so its not a spoiler or anything.

| How can you say Water 7 was flat, but Enies Lobby fantastic. The former had some of the best drama in the entire series, while the latter is 60% non-stop fighting. Fights that weren't nearly as unique as the ones in Alabasta.
Robin's flashback was fantastic and the burning of the WG flag with Robin wanting to live are unforgettable, but Luffy vs. Usopp and Franky's flashback were just as good and heartwrenching. And the exploration of the water metropolis and meeting all these crazy dudes, while the crew falls apart more and more is much more well written than the continuous stream of fodder bad guys and lifeless main villains that come up in Enies Lobby.

| There are some great fights in Enies lobby perssonally I loved: - Spoiler:
Zoro vs Kaku Chopper vs Kumadoria Luffy vs Blueno
honestly I didn't care much for Frankie's fights, Nami's fight or lucci. Sanji's fight is kinda part of Zoro's but it was a very small part so i didn't really think much of that either.

| Franky's fight was the only one that was fun andunique, Chopper's was good , Luffy vs. Lucci had some good moments, but was way too long and Luffy vs. Blueno was fun. Zoro and Sanji's was basically dumb attack spam until they decided they had learned some new technique and OHKO'd their opponents. Nami vs. Kalifa was downright embarassing. | |

I didn't say the whole thing was flat, I said it was "a bit flat." Yes, parts of Water Seven were great; the intial exploration of anywhere new is usually a visual feast, and yes, some of the story build up was fantastic. Robin's apparent betrayal and the mystery of the CP9 was utterly engrossing. - Quote :
- Robin's flashback was fantastic and the burning of the WG flag with Robin wanting to live are unforgettable,
Agreed, both stand out moments. - Quote :
- but Luffy vs. Usopp
Yes, that was unexpectd and quite nicely handled. - Quote :
- and Franky's flashback were just as good and heartwrenching.
Ah, I have to disagree here. A large part of why I didn't fully enjoy Water Seven is down to Franky, sadly. It pains me to say it, but I just don't like him. I don't like his character design, I don't like his character, and as a result I really didn't care about his backstory. Compare it to Nami's or Robin's, both of which were standout moments of their respective arcs, he's the only one of the Straw Hats that I feel absolutely no connection to; even Robin, who was intially very distant, had a couple of great moments, (as mentioned above) that revealed great depth and warmth behind her seemingly cold facade. Heck, I felt more connection - Spoiler:
to Going Merry. Her viking funeral was genuinely heartwrenching. - Quote :

Water Seven was well written, yes, and the plot line was intriguing but again, I didn't really care about "all these crazy dudes". Franky and his family were just there to bulk up numbers, none of them had any personality, most of the Shipwrights / carpenters (Paulie aside) were just as generic as the "lifeless main villains" of Enies Lobby, and it was only the drama surrounding Usopp and Robin (which was admittedly handled superbly) that kept it going. As for Enies Lobby, yes, I prefer story over brainless action anyday of the week, but I'll make no apologies for enjoying an arc consisting mostly of fighting. What character development there was was done incredibly well (again, Robin's backstory, Usopp's invention of Sogeking and subsequent return to the crew, and the fate of Going Merry) and while some of the villains, even the CP9, were just fodder I enjoyed most of the fights. Nami vs Kalifa was boring, and Luffy vs Lucci dragged on too long (plus, they ended up just trading blows in a brawl... hardly dramatic or exciting, is it?), but for the most part I enjoyed it. It felt good to see carnage on that grand a scale, with that many combatants. Plus, Chopper going feral was awesome, so utterly out of character. Moving on, I'm now partway through Thriller Bark. - Spoiler:
Luffy's just had his shadow stolen. To be honest, this has been a pretty uninteresting arc so far. Does it pick up at all, or is it just a weak link?

You might enjoy the whole story with Brook once he's fleshed out a little more. Other than that, nah, it's a pretty boring arc.

| Brook's the skeleton guy, right? He's a bit one dimensional at the moment, yeah. As for the arc itself, I hope it isn't a really big one, because it really is a bit dull. | |

| If Eneru isn't a main character throughout the series now I don't even know what I'll do. He could be the ships God. Every ship needs a God | |

| The best thing about Eneru (other than his hot bod) is that his whole God complex he has ging on. It reminds me a lot of Kefka from FFVI. | |

| Thriller arc has one of the funniest lines in the whole series, and the ending battle is great. | |

I'm now at the point where everyone is fighting Oz, and Kuma's just shown up.
A little further and... - Spoiler:
Holy shit, Sanji just managed to kick Oz's Gomu Gomu no Bazooka aside. Awesome.

| Just finished Thriller Bark. - Spoiler:
The first part of the arc was dull, but the finale was outstanding. The match vs Oz was really good, and while Luffy vs Moria wasn't that great, Nightmare Luffy raised a smile.
Also, as if Zoro wasn't badass enough, watching him stand up to Kuma like that, then being willing (and able) to take on all that pain and fatigue sent a shiver up my spine. Zoro, I salute you.
