my reaction when I got Vex Mythoclast:
anyways, I really need to work on leveling up my hunter and warlock now, so I can do Crota 3 times a week, I desperately need Radiant Shards, that's what's keeping me from being 32.

Ha, that'll be my reaction when (if!) I ever get Gjallarhorn!
Here was my reaction to Sly gloating about it...
Ha, I wasn't really bothered, I'm genuinely happy when people get weapons they're really excited by.
Just so you know, if your rep is maxed with Eris, you can trade Radiant Energy for Radiant Shards. That's what I just did; I only needed one, so quickly switched to my main, bought one more shard and then... yeah, level 32.

My bad, I just assumed you'd either be there or thereabouts, just because I got it maxed a good while ago. Just did another NM Crota run on my other Warlock (with all gear switched over, of course!) and got nothing but shard and energies. Bah.

I'm halfway level 1, so... and I do take bounties off her often, but I leave out the tedious ones.

Most of Eris's Bounties can be done at the same time.
Some of the below is pinched from Gamefaqs...
Spoiler:
ERIS MORN BOUNTIES
My preferered method for most of these is to use The Dark Beyond mission. Set it to Heroic level nine, then progress until you get the cutscene where your Guardian finds the downed guardian, sees the Exo Stranger and Ghost exclaims, "we've woken the Hive!".
The Hive will spawn en masse and charge you, and you can mow them down with whatever you need to get your Bounties done. Kill a few waves, then die and it'll start all over again. The trick is to never complete the mission, nor to be too greedy with it; if you kill too many enemies, but chiefly the Knight and the Hallowed Acolytes the mission will progress, indicated by Ghost saying, "I'm picking up the dying light of a Ghost, inside." You don't want to do this, it'll stop the Hive from spawning.
* Atonement -- Rapidly kill 3 hive with a special weapon, 5 times. Death will reset your progress -- Use The Dark Beyond
* Bonebreaker -- Kill Hive Wizards with Shoulder Charge. -- Titan-specific. I haven't tried this one, as I don't run Titan.
* Boneshaker -- Kill 7 Hive at once with Fist of Havoc. -- Titan-specific. The Dark Beyond should work for this.
* Blades of Crota -- Hunt the Knights who serve as Blades of Crota on Earth and the Moon. -- Self-explanatory, kill 3. Easiest in the Fist of Crota mission, going to orbit and repeating afterward. Others spawn in locations very close to the landing areas for the Cosmodrome and the moon. As long as you're nearby, you should get credit for a kill even if someone else does it. You might have to at least put one shot on the enemy.
* Chase the Dark -- Kill Hive with Axion Bolt -- Warlock-specific. You need 25 kills with Axion Bolt. Use Voidfang Vestments to spawn three seekers instead of two, and hit up The Dark Beyond again. Using Bloom will help as the Thrall will explode, taking out more enemies around them.
* Cut Them Down -- Kill Hive using a Blade's sword on Earth. -- Run Fist of Crota, kill the swordbearer inside the building, then slash the remaining Hive. You don't need to leave the trio of Acolytes around the summoning point alive, as there will be enough Thralls, Acolytes, and Knights to easily reach 15 before even going to the boss area.
* Hard Fall -- Rapidly kill 4 Hive with a Heavy Weapon. Death will reset your progress. -- Similar methods as the Atonement bounty. Gjallarhorn/Truth/other rocket launcher into a group, anybody?
* Let's Dance -- Rapidly Kill 7 enemies with a Melee attack. - Use The Dark Beyond, and get to killing. Sunsinger can use flame shield for added security.
* One of Us -- Kill Hive Majors and Ultras with any of Eris' class items equipped. -- Self-explanatory. A counting bounty for 10 kills. Extra-nice if you get the similar Vanguard bounty as well.
* Purifier -- Kill 7 Hive at once with Nova Bomb. -- Warlock-specific. Run The Dark Beyond and use the super on the grouped enemies as soon as the doors open and you see them.
* The Cleansing -- Kill any Majors or Ultras in a Nightfall activity. -- Self-explanatory. It takes 10.
* Siege of the Warmind -- Defend Rasputin in the Siege of the Warmind mission on Earth with the Heroic modifier active. -- Self-explanatory.
* Shine a Light -- Use a Solar or Arc ability to kill any enemy. -- Use grenades or a Super, dependant on class, on Dark Beyond.
* Light The Dark -- Rapidly Kill 10 Hive with Grenade abilities while under the effect of Radiance. -- Warlock-specific. I don't think I've done this yet, but The Dark Beyond should be the best way to do it, or any part during Chamber of Night or patrol in the same areas where you can find a large enough group of enemies.

Just solo'd the whole Crota raid on normal. Taking down Crota on my own, and without a Gjallarhorn, felt really, really awesome. I hoped I'd get a helmet as a reward, but I got Black Hammer instead.

Wow.
I can manage the Abyss, but still can't do Bridge solo and wouldn't dream of trying Ir Yut or Crota solo, even at 32. I need to know how you did it. I really need to know, so I can at least make an attempt at it.
Again, wow.

You will need patience and time. Literally. The final fight took me about 5 hours until I got it right as you can't afford to make any mistakes (and not run into any stupid glitches) because Crota's Oversoul will trigger after 8-9 minutes. It'd have been a lot easier with Gjallarhorn, but this amazingly OP weapon still eludes me.
Abyss: I used the shortcut
------
Bridge: I'm pretty sure you can still get to the other side by swinging the sword without forming the bridge (look it up on YouTube). I did it the legit way though; you've to step on the central plate until the bridge is formed and kill the Swordbearer. When the screen goes red, you've to get off it so you won't be killed by the totems and step on it again immediately after they have deactivated. The hard part is getting the Swordbearer to come after you (that shitty knight likes to hide!*) because you can't leave the plate as the bridge will dissipate. Once you get across, take cover behind a rock on the right side near the totem. You're safe from all attacks there except of some thralls and the ogre.
* this part can be a lot easier for Sunsingers: simply die and self-resurrect exactly before the timer reaches 0 to de-spawn the thralls. Then the sword guy will come after you as the bridge is forming.
-----
Corridor: kill the shriekers with rockets and retreat to avoid the mini-explosions
-----
Ir-Yut: that part was somewhat tough. My strategy was to run to the room next to the Deathsinger and then immediately to the boomer tower. From there I sniped the wizard (I used Ice Breaker for +2 agility bonus), ran back inside the room and threw a rocket and a fusion grenade to the shrieker (sometimes it won't sticky though). Then I did the same thing for the wizard and the shrieker on the other side, waited for the shrieker's explosions outside, ran back inside, jumped above the door behind the crystal in Deathsinger's chamber to be safe from the sword knights and sniped her. It's kinda hard to survive in her room, but eventually I managed to kill her and then her minions to end this phase.
-----
The final fight is basically a race against time.
First Sword:
- kill every enemy in the starting area (the timer for oversoul doesn't start until you head out) - grab the chalice - shoot the swordbearer to make him follow you and run to the area beneath Ir-Yut's chamber where thralls can't reach you - kill him, grab the sword, climb to the small rock on the left side of Crota - drop the sword, activate Radiance, throw 4 fusion grenades at him (2 grenades, 1 rocket and another grenade works too), grab the sword and jump on the platform - do the square, square, triangle combo x2 and get away from him
Second Sword:
- Crota moves to the left side - kill thralls and boomers to refill the super gauge - kill the next swordbearer and repeat the process * don't kill him too fast though, you want Crota to return in the middle platform
Third Sword:
- Crota moves again - for this part, I used my Efrideet's Spear as Ice Breaker cannot regenerate ammo fast enough - kill the ogres asap - kill the swordbearer and repeat the process * if you fail to kill the ogres fast enough, Crota will move to the left side again; at this point you can jump on the other side and spam your grenades from there, although it's harder. I'm not sure if you can wait until he returns again to his original spot as you'll have to fight a second wave of Ogres too.
Fourth Sword:
- same as the second
There are probably better strategies out there, but this one worked for me. Btw, you'll have to use the perks that enable the DoT of your grenades to keep his shield down. If you've Gjallarhorn you don't need to use grenades. Just fire 2 rockets and jump at him. Not sure if I'd do it again. Crota's fight is quite glitchy. Sometimes enemies wouldn't spawn, the sword would fall off the rock, his shield wouldn't disappear, etc.

Hard Light is a pretty fun gun that I think more people should try. I really would like to get my hands on Thunderlord, though I do have a few very good HMGs already. As for Gjallarhorn, I actually wouldn't be surprised if Xur never sells it again; I don't buy the explanation that Xur's loot is random, and I think handing out the most damaging weapon in the game would be a mistake, regardless of how much I would like to have it myself!

I agree. Selling Gjallarhorn = dumbing down the difficulty of the game. They would have to nerf it somehow and I can imagine a lot of people getting mad. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Ice Breaker was removed from Xur's inventory too until recently. We now have Efrideet's Spear, Black Hammer and even the vendor's LDR, which are generally better weapons, and IB is currently used mostly for cheesing.

I'd be disappointed if Gjallarhorn did get nerfed. While it's true that it is unique in terms of its raw damage output, that's what makes it better than mere legendary launchers like Hunger of Crota or Radegast's Fury.
Ice Breaker as a complete package is still a great weapon, but I agree that several weapons are comparable; my Efrideet's Spear hits harder, even without Final Round, and I have three LDRs, all of which give excellent utility, two of them even having Firefly. Ice Breaker's ability to regen ammo though does still make it worthy of that exotic slot.

Did the abyss and the bridge sections on hard with my trusted Spear (in case you haven't noticed, it's my favourite weapon) and I got Oversoul Edict. It's no Fatebringer, but nevertheless it'll be useful for arc burns. I also ran Nightfall for the first time after a month and got... 10 ascendant shards.

I found this in-depth chart of time-to-kill for the guns in PvP. It's quite interesting.
RIP SUROS Regime, you were never allowed to live (okay, I'll admit it dominated the game for the first few months, but it definitely won't worth the exotic slot post-patch).

so what exactly is the Vex Mythoclast?
I mean, it's listed under auto-rifles here, it says fusion rifle in game but it fires like a pulse rifle.

It's a fusion rifle which fires like auto-rifle but does higher headshot damage, like a scout rifle. It's kinda complicated, isn't it? It shouldn't be affected by the patch's auto-rifle nerf, so it'll actually be even better soon. Honestly, since you like ARs, you should be using it for PvP as it's one of top 4 primaries; only The Last Word can beat it at close range and it's getting nerfed.

If I had one, I'd be able to answer that definitively.
Grumble, whine, moan etc.
How many other people have put hundreds of hours into the game, dozens of hours into the raid and still don't have the Vex? Well, probably quite a few, but it still genuinely amuses me that every time I do VoG there are guaranteed to be at least two other people getting it, one of whom will normally already have had five or six. I can't even get Vision of Confluence.

ha, so I got a legendary engram in that Daily just now, turned into another auto-rifle; Do Gooder V... gonna quickly test it now on a strike to see what it's like.
Edit: alright, well, it's not a bad weapon, I quite like it actually, but it is going to need the stability upgrade it has.. base stability is a bit low for my liking.

Of all the primary exotic weapons I could have gotten from a legendary engram, I received a second SUROS Regime... By the way, you should try your shotguns in PvE. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the new damage output.
The patch was pretty good imo. Shotguns are now way better at close range in PvE, even though their range was nerfed slightly. Handcannons' range/ accuracy at long range was also nerfed slightly (I think they're still a bit too good though). Pulse rifles are on par in terms of damage with the rest of the primaries; Red Death may actually be a top 5 primary gun in PvP as it can kill in 2 bursts again. Armor-piercing rounds were nerfed a bit to put an end to killing bosses through walls. They also fixed various glitches regarding heavy ammo and enemies in Crucible no longer drop heavy ammo which isa good thing.
Unfortunately, autorifles are the new "pulse rifles" of the game. The damage reduction wasn't just 2.5%. Low RoF, high Impact autorifles lost over 10% of their damage output, so their time-to-kill with headshots is worse than Mythoclast's time-to-kill with bodyshots.
