| Or the rather lames sounding Avengers Assemble, as it's known in the UK.
Anyway, saw it last night. It was ace.

| I'll say nothing, except that Mark Ruffalo was ace as Banner / Hulk. | |

| Does it have Whedon's (and my) favourite trope of having the whole team walk towards the camera in slowmotion? | |

| Well I don't know if you need to watch them to get the movie, but I can tell you that you should regardless, they're both good movies in their own right. And there are probably references to them if nothing else. | |

| What I want to know is why the hell they're waiting this long to show the U.S the film. It's an American made movie and Marvel is American... | |

Do i need to see thor or captain america before this? I'll grab the blu rays if need be. They both introduce major elements of the movie (Loki and the Cosmic Cube, respectively), so you might want to check them out.

| Yeah, I'd say you're missing out by not watching them anyway as they're both pretty good fun in their own right. You could make sense of the Avengers without them, but I'd suggest checking out Thor if nothing else, just to get a sense of where Loki's coming from and his relationship with Thor. Kai, how did you find the various characters? Fairly large spoilers may be contained below. - Spoiler:
Was it just me or was Cap a bit wet? Chris Evans did a pretty good job of looking like a man out of time, and it was obvious that everyone has massive respect for Cap himself, especially when he calls the shots at the end and no one questions it at all, but he seemed a touch underwhelming compared to the exploits of some of the others.
Iron man / Stark had a really good showing, lots of gags and gadgets, and Downey Jnr was as charismatic as ever. Loved the fight with Thor as well.
Thor looked less invincible here than in his own flick, though that might be something to do with the calibre of opponent, but a good showing nontheless, and he had a couple of the best scenes in the film.
Banner / Hulk - Ruffalo was perfect, absoluely perfect, and Hulk gets some great fight scenes, including one moment of perfectly timeed comedy gold with Thor.
Hawkeye was pretty cool him being a bad guy was a nice twist that I didn't see coming, and his skillset was genuinely interesting.
Black Widow looked better with the longer hair from IM2, and seemed a bit out of her depth on more than one occasion, though I guess being a trained assassin in a group of genuine superhumans does limit your chances to shine.
Loki was a pretty marvellous villain, arrogant and condescending, yet utterly ruthless and charming all at the same time. Also featured in a very funny curbstomp battle.
Finally, really shocked they killed off Coulson. Didn't see that coming.

| Hulk was the best part of the film. Black Widow was out of her depth but she still kicked ass. Joss Whedon really knows how to handle an ensemble. The cast was very evenly balanced. | |

That was partly what I was worried about. Glad to know that they are well balanced. I re-watched the two Iron Man films in anticipation for this. Gonna re-watch Cap, Thor and Hulk between now and May 4 when it comes out in the U.S.

| So anyone disagree with my - admittedly rather brief - character summary? I do need to give Black Widow a touch more credit as well - I saw the film a second time yesterday, - Spoiler:
and the first time around I'd missed the scene with her and Loki, where she plays him for a total sucker.
Great little scene that, Loki being petty, spiteful and downright nasty and she just turns around with a big 'fuck you' smile.

| I'll have to see it again at some point. 3D makes a mess of fast action scenes. | |

It hurts, doesn't it? It's soooooo good and you've gotta wait. No, not really. Logically speaking, it's the same release date whether or not I found out that it came out early in other countries. And hearing about how good it is reassures me for when I go see it.

| Just saw Thor, and was thoroughly underwhelmed. I liked it when he took his shirt off, when he ate food and when Natalie Portman was embarassed. That's it. The fights and special effects where very unimpressive. | |

| Yeah, not sure why everyone raved about Thor. It's the least entertaining of the Avengers series. | |

| As far as production value, script, etc, then yeah. Thor was definitely the hardest sell, and you can tell they had to put a lot of focus on simply making that world and those characters not a laughing stock. It worked, but the film just fell flat a bit because so much time had to go into establishing the basic plot points.
Hulk was more entertaining. The final action scene in Incredible Hulk is the best action scene in the series (apart from all the stuff in Avengers obviously).
