Gave this a shot and honestly it just feels like more of the same. I didn't expect any more than that but unless there are some major changes between this and AC3 I can't see myself enjoying it very much. Just seems to be getting a little tired, using the same formula every single game and all. I'll probably finish this at some point but it's not high on my list.

Of course AC3 is going to be completely different, considering it will focus a lot on Desmond in modern times, while ACB and ACR were expansions to ACII and used the same Animus "model". AC3 will most likely have an Animus 3.0 and will be as different as AC1 and AC2 were.

So is this game decent length for the single player?

I'm hearing complaints about it being a game made for multiplayer with SP being a detriment or are these people just being whiners?

It's about the same length as Brotherhood.

The online players are dreadful.

The number of times i look like i could win and then i end up getting some muppet on my team deciding that running and pushing me out of the way. So they can go for a blatent kill instead of me getting 3/4 bonuses was driving me insane.

Then in solo this can be just as messed up, when your target decides that running around the map is the best tactic or camping on rooftops basically destroying all your options. Obviously people who decide the gun is the best method of killing is really irritating to.

Either way thouhg this time round i'm enjoying manhunt and Escort a lot more. This might be because of the fact escort is now avaible to everyone so there's a nice mixture of chaos without ruining the actual experience.

Okey dokey. Finally bought this game so I'm commandeering this thread for my own use.

I'm really sick of Desmond having a different character model in every game. It's like if Neo was played by a different actor in every Matrix film. It was a particularly Matrix-ey intro too, zooming into the text on the monitor after that really long exposition monologue.

So I gather Desmond went mental after killing Lucy at the end of Brotherhood, and the only way to unmental himself is relive more of Ezio's memories. That's a pretty poor excuse for another Ezio game.

Ezio's back at Masyaf looking for some hidden library that Altair left behind because... it contains some magic books? I'm not sure. But it's hidden so that's a good enough reason to want to find it I suppose.

First thing I did was turn off the most useless HUD elements like the controls, money, weapons, etc. I can't think of any other game that has the controls displayed on screen as a default setting.

I'll just experience this game vicariously through you for now instead of playing it myself.

Walking out into the main hall of Masyaf castle was nice. It's like a real place that I have memories of. I ran straight up to where that guy used to tell me what to do and jump off the balcony instead of going down the stairs because that's what I always did in the first game.

Now I have to find some book that the Templars have because it will tell me where the keys to library are.

I'm going to try to fight using only the hidden blade and dropped weapons, just to make the combat a little bit more interesting.

Killed the Templat Captain in Masyaf and got that book back. The Templars are trying to find the Grand Temple. Don't know what that is, but apparently Altair's Library will them where it is.

Back at Animus Island now. It's where Desmond washed up at the start of the game. Kind of like Inception. Subject 16 is there for some reason. He went crazy in the same way that Desmond did but somehow ended up as a digital being inside the Animus, even though he was at Abstergo and the Assassins are using a different Animus machine. Maybe that was explained in the previous games, I can't remember. He was in 2 and Brotherhood, so I suspect it was.

But he looks like a normal guy now, and he's annoying.

He's probably leaked into Desmond's head much like how Desmond sees the past even without the animus before he goes batshit. Its been ages since i played so i got no clue.

We're in Constantinople, or Constantinopoli, or Istanbul, or whatever the hell it's actually called. Looks like a really nice city.

I think I'll also try to upgrade my equipment as little as possible, only doing so if a mission forces me. Assassin's Creed is always piss easy anyway and the armour and weapons just end up looking clunky. I'll definitely avoid getting the second hidden blade back if I can.

The head of the local Assassins is called Yusuf, and I'm certain that that's a tie wrapped around his head. He introduces me to the hookblade. Apparently the Assassins in Constantinople have been using them for years. Show offs. The hookblade allows me to grab on to ledges that ever so slightly further away than before. It also means I can do a "hook and run", which is just running and someone and vaulting over them to keep going. I have no idea why the hookblade is necesarry for this.

Now that I've got some free time and the hookblade, I'm going to do the first thing anyone does in this situation. Climb the nearest giant landmark. I'd assume most people would do for the synchronisation point, but I actually pay attention to my surroundings. I've got my Assassin HQ under the two small towers the north-west of this big tower, a large palace in the south east of the city, and a large river running east-west across the top of the city. When I get bored later on and turn the map off to piss around this knowledge will be invaluable.

Time for some real missions then.

I forgot there was a tower defense mini-game in this. I'll do my best to never have to do that again.

I had to cross the river and reclaim another den, which thankfully didn't involve another round of tower defense, and that's the end of sequence 2.

When did become the norm that a game's opening chapter was action-packed and the second chapter was the tutorial? That seems backwards.

My next task is to recruit some more assassin's, but screw that for now. I need to get to know the city, and what better way that turning off the viewpoint markers and trying to find them myself? Still leaving the minimap on of course, because it acts as a compass. But the eagles tells me where the viewpoints are, and they even disappear after syncing, just like in AC1. Nice.

The city is bigger than I expected and there's a lot more viewpoints that I expected, so I'll put that on hold and just do them as I see them while wandering about. The Templar Dens are actually something of a challenge this time because of the little shelters filled with riflemen. They can only be killed with ranged attacks and I swear some of them can see and shoot through walls.

I had to buy a shoulder pad as part of a mission but I won't be buying any more armour, weapons, or ammo. I'm definitely upgrading my knife pouch though, because throwing knives are badass and the best way to kill riflemen. Since I won't be buying any I'll just have to make do with what I loot from dead guards.

My first recruit was a criminal who stole some food from a merchant. Pickpocketed the keys to his caage like a pro. Seems like a pretty scummy recruit, but he promised to be good.

I wish the game would save my map preferences.

I really liked the locations and city in this game, its why i preferred it to brotherhood, AC2 is still my fave out of the three though as there was so many towns. ACB onnly had 1 IIRC (the DLC stuff was cool though) and ACR has like 2 areas i think.
