A: All of the data was protected, and access was restricted both physically and through the perimeter and security of the network. The entire credit card table was encrypted and we have no evidence that credit card data was taken. The personal data table, which is a separate data set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack. Secondly, you might be okay with your information being sold to a bunch of criminals but I'm not, I'd call you an idiot for not caring. Or you just don't realise it's an issue, making you ignorant.
So I stand by my words - there's no reason for me to care, cause I have taken the appropriate safety measures when i got my credit card (obviously, I cared about my money to take these measures, but I'm completely safe, hence I don't need to worry or care now) ... so someone has my address, I'll ask you again, what's s/he gonna do with it? identity theft you say? sure, could be, but I will notice if someone is doing stuff with my identity and all I'd need to do is report it to authorities... there's no real harm someone can do to me, the only harm done is the time I'd need to take to go and report it, but that's not really an issue imo.. - i'm not saying it isn't an issue, I'm saying it's not an issue to me, cause I've covered myself on all bases. anyone who does think this is an issue, either has no idea of how protected they really are, or they know they didn't protect themselves good enough. it'd be an issue for those people sure... but only because they think it is, or they know they're not safe...

| So your attitude is "let shit happen I'll deal with it afterwards" when you could easily take preemptive measures against illegal activity using your information? Seems pretty stupid to me. | |

| thing is that shit isn't going to happen, as I said, they can't do anything usefull with my address and information, and the things they can do with it, I'd hardly call shit...
besides, what preemptive measures can i take in regards to my name and address and other personal information? I can't just change all that can I ?
I could go to the authorities and tell them to keep an eye out for anything suspicious happening with my information, but that's probably gonna annoy me more, cause you just know they'll start questioning stuff I do myself..

So I stand by my words SSMG was talking about credit card info which was why we were saying ti was encrypted. All my personal data (well the stuff on PSN) I can tell you for a fact is actually available on government sites because they do stupid shit like that. Ultimately the only problem was the credit card and thats encrypted and i managed to sort out in a matter of minutes. A lot of sites have had similar attacks made on them and people have taken details, lets not even get started on the tick or don't tick this box if its ok for us to share info with our friends boxes companies love to put on slips. Honestly if people want your personal info they can get it.

| Not worried. I think that the free PS+ will heal a lot of scars. | |

| I'm more concerned that Sony are stockpiling outdated CC information. If you change or delete your credit card on PSN, that should be it. But apparently they keep all the old information as well. | |

Are the works they listed in the press release, I'd assume if you've ever put details into one of those games that info has been compromised. That said I think it's only a few countries in Europe that have been directly affected by that specific breach so you should be fine.

- PS+ for a month?
Okay, that is pretty good. Yeah it's pretty cool. I have to laugh at the people who actually paid for it getting screwed though, they already lost 2 weeks of paid PS+ time so they get 'less' than everyone else. It depends when they give it, because for 5-6 weeks the store would be down, so if free PSN is during the time the store is down its fairly redundant. I mean if you didn't have full access to your PSN services for 6 weeks and they gave only 4 weeks back 'd be pretty pissed.

| There's no way Sony would be stupid enough to give us a month PS+ while the store is down. People are already pissed off with them. If the store comes back online and they say "Your free month is already gone" they'll just cause themselves more problems. | |

| I think they get shat on either way, people who already had PSN+ get 4(ish) free weeks minus the two and counting they already paid for but obviously didn't get. On the other hand free members get 4 weeks. Sony should probably do something about that, not that it particularly bothers me. | |

| they said on the blog they're testing the new system so hopefully it'll all work out soon. ps+ members get the 4 weeks in addition to the time they lost. unless i misread it. | |

Yeah, they just added that in the most recent blog post though. Someone obviously told them how broken their previous plan was in favour of non-paying members.

| A free million dollar insurance plan for every US PSN account holder? I bet a lot of people are suddenly hoping their CC info has been stolen. By a maniacal shop-aholic. | |

Also inb4 we get hipster hackers who claim that they "hacked Sony before it was popular."

| Well it just seems too common sense to include it to think it's something they genuinely didn't have in mind at first. | |
