| Free PS+ for a month for every PSN account is a pretty decent goodwill gesture. | |

| Yay, Now I can sample it and try some of the free PSX games. ...I'll have to beat them before the PS+ expires though, Lest I have to delete them without having ever beaten them. D: | |

Okay, that is pretty good. Yeah it's pretty cool. I have to laugh at the people who actually paid for it getting screwed though, they already lost 2 weeks of paid PS+ time so they get 'less' than everyone else.

| I have to imagine the extra free month applies to them too. | |

Yes, so they get two weeks that replaces what they already paid for and weren't able to use + two free weeks. Unless Sony reimburses them somehow for that time they're technically getting less than everyone else.

XBL has been down for periods of up to 2 weeks on multiple occasions. They're both as bad as each other. Yeah when the XBL went down (four days was the longest stretch) it was for updates due to a holiday overload, for the PSN it had a security leak, it's a little different circumstances. I've never had to worry about my information being compromised on XBL, I guess you get what you pay for, and that's why PSN is free.

- With so much focus on the PSN being down and what we all think we deserve in return, and how furious we all are that we can't play our games in the decently filled release window that the PSN outage fell during, it seems like we were quick to forget something.
Xbox Live has been through this before as well, during holiday season no less! For nearly 2 weeks the Xbox Live outage raged on and, well, it seems like us gamers still haven't quite learned our lesson. I guess patience really is a virtue. If you thought a weekend was a long time to get a network rebuilt then perhaps you don't remember when Xbox Live was shut down simply from 'expansion pains'.
If it took Microsoft that long to bounce back, and they were forced to keep gamers in the dark during a HOLIDAY SEASON, let's see how long it takes Sony. Be thankful this didn't happen during the release window of Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, Call of Duty 8, Battlefield 3, etc. and try to find something constructive to do in the meantime. http://www.examiner.com/video-game-in-boston/xbox-live-down-how-quickly-we-forget

| XBL was down for only four days for me. Unless that was before I owned my 360 which I've had since xmas of 07.
But still I'd rather have the network be down due to sever overloads compared to security leaks.

"They've hacked banks and government networks, What makes you think a fucking gaming network is any better?" Because a video game network is certainly comparable to the government and places holding most of the country's money.

But still I'd rather have the network be down due to sever overloads compared to security leaks. The info leaked was info easily available on the internet. I'd imagine those peoples credit cards numbers were not easily available on the net. They don't have credit card details. They didnt even necessarily get the information, thats not even including the fact that it was encrypted if they did, on top of that those details are completely useless as they were caught doing it hence if your really worried you can cancel your card and get a replacement in around 3-5 days. So honestly not a big deal. What i'd find more worrying is when someone attacked the company in question was not even aware. Hell if xbox live went down multiple times for a few days and thats just for general crap i'd hate to see how badly they'd have handled this situation, especially as its a paid subscription. I mean that time when the network was down for two weeks or the time you experienced it being down several days did you get any kind of compensation or money back. Also they don't even have the security card numbers, that basically renders the card data basically useless.

| First of all that's wrong, only the credit card information was encrypted. - Quote :
- Q: Was my personal data encrypted?
A: All of the data was protected, and access was restricted both physically and through the perimeter and security of the network. The entire credit card table was encrypted and we have no evidence that credit card data was taken. The personal data table, which is a separate data set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack. Secondly, you might be okay with your information being sold to a bunch of criminals but I'm not, I'd call you an idiot for not caring. Or you just don't realise it's an issue, making you ignorant. So I stand by my words
