The motor bikes create energy to run the city, Kaiba corp found a way to gives the city infinite energy to power the city by dueling and the bikes does that. So far 1 person died and if my theory is correct then many more have to. Yusei the main character almost died to my avatar and sig guy but was saved by his duel runner's front wheel bursting apart before the attack.

Meh, idc. They only been dueling on there mainly on running from security or tourneys. They lately been dueling a lot by duel disk.
