unless there going for the kind of mechanic were your literally getting chased the whole time but can't defend yourself
that would also be shitty though

I think thats why they give you the flares but still, try to slow a mutant with a flare and see if it works
I still have this bad feeling about SH-SM ... Somethings not gonna go the right way

well the thing is games tese dats generally hold your hand
which will mean some pull something ot of your ass mechanic to get out of tight spots not dying which would suck or dying so frequently that death loses all meaning
pretty much to make this a good game they need everything just perfect but to have only 1 or two tricks that you can spam to get out of tight spots will get repetitive and thinking the enemy is just that stupid

SHSM was really, really good.
The chase sequences are intense and for a change the wii controls are actually decent for a change. I recommend it.

Could you please elaborate a little in the fear experience?

Although I'd argue that the atmosphere created by the town in it's regular form is still adequately unnerving; the true horror of the game comes from the nightmare sequences.
It's true, you are completely unnamed and have no ways of defending yourself. At the beginning of each section you can check your map to see where the 'exit' is, but once you're being pursued you have no way of checking without getting overwhelmed.
You're forced to literally run for your life, lest you get swarmed and dogpiled by the Raw Shocks. You can thrust them off by using the Wiimote to shove them away; but they're grip takes their toll and you can see it in Harry as he gradually gets worn down, limping with increasingly sluggish movements.
The only means you have to escape are the flares, which can drive back enemies and prevent them from attacking (though they still follow you). You can drop the flares to create an obstacle that the Raw Shocks will not pass, giving you a chance to create some distance before the flare runs out.
As you run, you can use the Wiimote to throw down closets, shelves and other obstacles to slow down your pursuers or you can try to hide. It's all temporary though, since the Raw Shocks will eventually sniff you out and rip you from your hiding spot.
Don't think you're safe while performing an action (there's no invincibility frames like in the RE series), if you try to climb a fence - a Raw Shock will likely jump and your back and try to drag you back down. If you to crawl under an blockade, they'll grab your legs and you'll have to kick them off before they pull you back. Occasionally a Raw Shock will burst out of the door you're running toward and manhandle you.
It's great. The story may be short, but it's meant to be played repeatedly utilizing different psychological profiles. If you love the atmosphere of the previous games and like a slick motion controls, this is the game for you.

that sounds interesting doesn't the gameplay get a bit stale as you get further into the game?

I didn't play myself, I played as a drunk. That effected my ending.
At the end, you're given an actual psychological profile the game assembled from your various sessions; I remember mine as being fairly accurate. Which was weird.

Well, on repeat playthroughs, yeah. The chase scenes never stop being intense, but the "in-between" does once you've done everything.
The game is probably about 4 hours your first time through if you just rush through it. If you take your time, take in your surroundings, find all the echos photos and memories and find all the mementos, you could extend it to 8 hours.
For me though, having played through repeatedly: I can probably beat it 100% in a couple of hours. Only because there are a few sequences which you can't skip/have to take it slow.
