Amazing chapter. Screw the guys who say otherwise.

Yeah it was ok. Massive amounts of "LET'S WASTE PANEL SPACE WITH DRAMATIC SHOTS" moments but it wasn't boring at least. Oh yeah and I was disappointed a little for the whole cliche "smiling while telling the hero to stop trying to deny death of a close one" moment too but y'know, it's a kids manga, it had to be done that way whether you like it or not for it to feel right.

Oda's intention with Ace smiling is to mirror the death of his old man, who also smiled before his death, as well as every single other D.

No, not the smiling WHEN dead, I mean the cliche'd moment all before that while he's talking. The whole moment is taken out of every single "close friend death" in manga/anime ever.

Anyway it was still neat, although I can't take Luffy's face seriously so I admit I smiled more than cared about the death. >_>

Yeah, the tardface at the end looked ridiculous. Especially since the spoiler provider hyped it up. It just looks comical. The anime will probably handle the scene better. Anyway, I predict (and HOPE) Luffy passes out and the arc ends.

Or just have Luffy pass out and let the arc continue to see WB godstomp the island. Luffy is the one who made the arc terrible in the first place.

I still wish the whole chapter wasn't just Ace going bla bla bla like we're supposed to care. Probably all the hardcore OP fans are crying and shit like it's an emotional epic. I was hoping Ace died earlier and then the rest of the chapter would be the closing of this arc once and for all. I would've liked that more than the expected generic DRAMATIC END after this speech and such when we've been force fed Ace pity pills long enough.

Next chapter better be good since is thankfully all over.

Ace was Oda's weakest character. A Gary Stu emo who was already meant to die in his first appearance (since he was already looking for Blackbeard back in Alabasta).

Well at least they're looking at something positive and not just seeing this chapter as more insufferable wastes of time.

Are you implying Ace was important?

To the overall story? No.

To Luffy and his will to become pirate king? Hell yes.

Ace is pretty much what Kuina, Bellemere, Hiruluk, Ohara, Tom, the Rumbar pirates and Zeff's leg were to the other SH's. The end of Sabaody to this moment is essentially Luffy's TRAJIC past.

Also, Ace has consistently been the most popular non Straw Hat by far, always being at place 5 after Chopper in the popularity polls.
