| I think it would be fun seeing as we are at the end of a gen, to point out what games you'd rate as your top 5 that other people should play. Anything this gen counts regardless of platform lets say 2007-2013:
1. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (not sure if 999 is part of this gen or not, but you really should pllay it before this one even though its not essential, you'll miss some stuff) 2. Prototype 3. Batman: Arkham Asylum 4. Alpha Protocol 5. Yakuza 3/4
Yes I didn't put Streets of Rage 2, but ultimately I am going to hunt each and everyone of you down and force you to play it if necessary.
2 of those games might be suprising so i'll go over those:
Prototype, you can piledriver someone off a building throw objects and then out run them, nosedive off the highest point in the game and kill everything in the street. It has defined what a overpowered character should feel like, it took parkour to a whole new level.
Alpha Protocol, I love stealth games, i love action games, RPGs are fun, somehow alpha protocol covered all those points and gave a rewarding experience, you can bypass fights get everyone on side or kill everything and drug bosses to weaken them. The different playstyles really offer something, I will be playing this again when I have forgotten enough to be able to get some more interesting scenes because scenes you've never seen before do show up when you do things differently or in another order.
Honorable mentions Fallout 3/New Vegas, Dragon's Crown, Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, Spec Ops: The Line

| - Dark/Demon's Souls, for genuine innovation on the multiplayer front and (re)introducing the concept of tough but fair difficulty in games.
- Journey
- The World Ends With You, for the most interesting use of touch screen mechanics I've seen, as well as being a fun game to boot.
- Pathologic, which actually came out in 2005 but is something that everyone should try, even though they'll probably hate it.
- Hotline Miami, because it's like mainlining neon.
Honorable Mentions: - Nier. This isn't a game that everyone can enjoy but if you can see it through to the end (four times) you'll understand why it's special.
- Mass Effect, because it's a great space opera RPG. ME2 is also worth playing for the tighter gameplay, although it's much lighter on the roleplaying, atmosphere, story etc...
- The Witcher 1/2, because it has actual moral choices and an interesting world.

| 1. final fantasy 13 2. batman arkham asylum 3. assassins creed 2 4. split second velocity 5. vanquish
no one will agree with my first choice but imo it is the best looking game this gen, also the way the "linear" sections were done gave everyone the chance to play as all the characters rather than just sticking with the ones you know.
split second is awesome but they shut the studio down before finishing 2 so it will never be released, kinda makes this a one off
vanquish imo is the best fps this gen with the way it was made
if we're doing special mentions then GTA5 has to go in there, when they finish working the kinks out of the multi player it surely will go down as the best.

yes, I did put a Call of Duty game in there. you can say anything bad about COD these days, and you'd probably be right, but the first Modern Warfare really did it right at the time.

| Weird LBP completely slipped my mind it was great though. CoD 4 was great at the time, I can't argue with that. The fact the others felt like rehashes is what made the franchise shitty. Although that said I preferred Resistance Fall of man to it, because you could do the whole campaign on coop and that was freaking awesome.
Also something worth noting is CoD is one of the few army games with AI bots in versus mode, athough that might only be black ops I don't remember.

| 1: Mass Effect I'm counting the trilogy as a whole here, and while the original has dated in the near-seven years since release, part 2 and 3 had highs that nothing else this generation has matched. Even the underwhelming ending of the trilogy cannot detract from all that went before it. 2: Skyrim For obvious reasons. 3: Valkyria Chronicles Still my favourite PS3 exclusive, a wonderfully crafted strategy game with engaging characters and an engrossing story. 4: Bioshock Again, I'll include the trilogy here. Bioshock was an absolute stunner, and whilst no 2 couldn't quite match it in terms of story, it actually improved the basic gameplay. Infinite never gripped me in quite the same way, but the ending was typical of the franchise, both inspiring and heart breaking at the same time. 5: Dragon Age: Origins Very much just Origins this time, part 2 taking several steps back over the old-school charm of Origins. Honourable mentions, in no real order; Dragon's Dogma, Forza Motorsport, Borderlands 2 plus many others I've likely forgotten about. Say what you like about it, but this has been a fantastic generation for gamers. | |

| I don't have nearly the game collection this gen as I did last. My PS3 and 360 games combined comes nowhere near my PS2 collection. However from games I have played.
- God Of War 3. - Mafia 2. - Uncharted series. - Infamous series. - Grand Theft Auto 5 (it really is a great game).
