Terminator 1 mystery

The story is about that soldier sent back in time to rescue Sarah Connor from the Terminator sent to finish her and end the rebel leader John Connor permanently, but then that soldier sent to protect Sarah fucked her and impregnated her with John Connor. If things happen in a time loop, how did this happen to begin with? What was that guy sent back in time for in the first place?

It's better not to question time loops and how they came to be in the first place. The only conclusion that won't give you a headache is that the time loop "always happened".

That or you could say that maybe the "first" John Conner's father was originally someone else.
