| Not been a good few weeks for the Sony products in my household. First the Vaio laptop, now the PS3. What's worse is that I was playing (or watching - haters gonna hate) Ultimate Tenkaichi at the time, which means I've got a game stuck inside that's only four bloody days old and cost thirty five quid. Joy. I really hate Sony right now, going to try and find a fix online, see if that works. | |

| Just open it up, unless you're it's still within warranty. | |

| No, it's miles outside warranty, it must be five years old at the very least. I've tried getting it open, but my crappy screwdriver just seems to round off the screw heads. | |

| I can't get the game disc out, which is bloody annoying. For all it's flaws (of which there are undoubtedly many) I was having fun with the game. | |

Are you talking about YLOD? When you turn the PS3 on, does it start up and then beep twice, blink yellow and then go flashing red? Also what model PS3 do you have? Because my backwards 60 gig YLOD'd a little while ago. If that's the case, it's pretty much unfixable unless you're pretty handy with tools and don't mind literally soldering something inside the PS3 back on. https://razielsdomain.forumotion.net/t14010-ps3-not-working That's the great thing about forums. Sometimes you run across people on the same site who had the same problems and already did the research for you.

Yes. Didn't get the ones I wanted though. My first CaC was actually the Kaiolino character, because I couldn't get the hair I wanted for Simihan. Whent he PS3 died, I still hadn't found anything I really liked, most of the unlockables were things like Trunks' hair, #17's hair, Bardock's hair, and various items of clothing along similar lines ie #16's armour, #17's clothes, Tien's outfit etc. I'm not even sure the hairstyle I wanted for Simihan (something like Buu Saga Gohan's) is in the game. I'm expecting a DLC pack containing a few such items. - Zero wrote:

Yeah, that's the one. And yes, mine is also a 60GB backwards compatible, which is doubly annoying. I could buy a new PS3 Slim but I like having the BC option. - Quote :

I've ordered a repair kit off eBay, will let you know how I get on.

| I was reluctant to get the slim as well, but honestly I wasn't left with much choice. I still have my PS2 well working though, and you can store memory card data still on the slim. And the download speed absolutely trumps the BC by at least 10x.
I called up Sony and they got me a deal to send in my BC and get a 160gb slim for $100 all shipping and handling completely paid for by them. So if the repair kit doesn't work out, you can always complain to Sony and maybe they'll be prepared to offer you a "one time deal".

| Sim did the solution manage to get out your disc, thats the only sony solution i could find. There's a lot of other methods which sound overly complicated or would most likely end with a scratched disc.
You could also try the waiting game. Leaving the PS3 off and unplugged for a while. Then when you haven't tried turning it on for a fwe hours have another go at it. A couple of people said they managed to get it on for long enough to get the disc out in that way.

| fixing ylod is really not that hard. I did it a couple of times already.
mind you, with a good fix, it'll last only about a month. unless you do a complete overhaul and replace the actual processor chips etc, but that's probably a bit too hard.
I finally caved and got a slim though, got tired of fixing it every month.

| I am, but electrician =/= good at electronics.
had to look up how to do it too with a step by step guide. and i started out with a slight anxiety of ruining it too, but if you've done it once, it's a piece of cake. i still know it by heart, and it's been at least a year since i last fixed it.

A couple of people said they managed to get it on for long enough to get the disc out in that way. No, the forced eject didn't work, my PS3 is an older model (it's a 60gb launch PS3, ie the very first model released here) and apparently doesn't have the emergency eject function. I've had it disconnected all day, just tried it again and it's exactly the same; green light for a couple of seconds, then flashes yellow before beeping and turning red.

| The forced eject won't work then. I had the same problem and I let my PS3 sit for days before trying again. | |

| I don't know, maybe I'm wrong about actually replacing them, but they do need to come off at least which is still a task I wouldn't venture into.. | |

| PS3 is fixed.
It wasn't actually as hard as I'd imagined, took a couple of hours but I did do a couple of minor modifications while i was inside the guts of the machine; I soldered in another resistor for the fans, with a 12v feed. This essentially means the fans can run harder for longer, and if they get overstressed they'll just blow the resistor which is a much easier repair than getting the YLOD again. I also bought one of those aftermarket cooling fan units which plugs into one of the USB ports on the front. The net result is the PS3 is now noiser than before, but not too intrusive (certainly no worse than a launch 360) and is much less likely to repeat the problem.

| I don't know about it being better per se, because the repair itself was exactly the same as the one everyone else has done. I just did a little extra to try and stop it happening again. Whether or not that works will determine if it was a worthwile endeavour or not. | |
