kinda bummed, I wanted to see that fight scene with what's his face...the guy he kills in the books.

Barristan was the saving grace of Meereen. It speaks volumes about the priorities of the showrunners that they preserved Grey Worm for the awkward romance with Missandei in favor of Barristan's political maneuvering after Dany leaves on Drogon.

Missandei looks better than Barristan naked and they have to fill their weekly boob quota (scene with Melisandre and Jon in episode 4 was laughable) so Grey Worm has to stay to facilitate that.

so apparently they mixed Jon Connington with Jorah now.
Also, I kinda like this direction they're taking with Jorah. the way Jorah played out for a while in the books was a kick in the nuts for me, I'm glad they didn't make him a lowlife drunk in the series.

A lot of people are mad about Sansa's rape (fwiw, I'm not) but this was the worst thing in the episode:

Wonder how people would have reacted if the book version of Ramsays wedding night was filmed.

As long as they handle it better than Cersei's rape, I don't mind it. I don't see how they could've done the wedding night any different (yea yeah, they're the writers and have the power to NOT do it or just follow the book but lol her book storyline zzzzzz)
I've mentioned the book scene in arguments and people keep saying "well, that requires your imagination to fill in the blanks! It had meaning in the book! It wasn't exploitative!"

I'm getting pretty frustrated with this show. I counted at least three completely pointless nude/sex scenes in the most recent episode that added absolutely nothing whatsoever to the story.
Nobody gives a shit about the Sand Snakes even if one of them has decent boobs, Daario is the worst part of the worst part of the franchise and Sam boning Gilly messes with my JonxSam OTP headcanon only serves to fill in minutes too. If they've run out of book to turn into show I'd rather they take a year off or give Martin a kick up the arse to make him get on with it than this.

I'm pretty sure Sam and Gilly did have sex in the books, didn't they? The situations were different, but you can hardly compare that to gratuitous sandsnakes.

They do, it just bothers me because in the books both characters are actually doing things that aren't sitting around in the cold trying not to be raped and murdered. I'm pretty sure the only thing of note that happened the entire episode was Cersei being imprisoned, the rest was just fluff.

No, they were sitting on a ship being boring characters, making you work through their nonsense to get to the interesting story-lines again. At least this was a bit more dramatic.
Maester Aemon's death, Stannis facing the question of sacrificing his daughter to maybe win Winterfell and Tyrion being presented to Danny were fairly important. The rest, as you say, was fluff, but I still enjoyed the episode on the whole. It is possible that holding the two series separate in my mind definitely helps though.

Maester Aemon's death was a bit weird to me. Like in the previous episodes, I didn't see any signs of him being anything close to dying and all of a sudden there he is laying in his bed and he dies 5 seconds later.
At least in the books there's a bit of build up to it, unless I missed something in the show.

They're fast tracking loads, no real time to build to it. They did a bit though, just not explicitly. He was looking more haggard and weak in every appearance.

I'm starting to be really happy I read the books.
I had to force myself not to say something when one of my friends said this was the best episode yet.

So is the show completely caught up to the books now? The only thing I remember that hasn't happened is Kevan Lannister.

I believe it pretty much is, yeah.
Spoiler:
Sam's not at Oldhome yet though, and Arya's a bit behind too.

goddammit
Spoiler:
not my man Stannis, I hope it's not a fucking book spoiler, he doesn't die in the books right? Or did I forget that? I'm currently rereading them, but Feast Of (for?) Crows is a bit hard to get through..
I also don't really know what to think of Jon Snow, but then again, the books didn't give any conclusion so far either, but yeah, given that these makers know what's going to happen, it's hard to know if he's actually dead now or not.
