Its pretty easy to look like wii quality graphics on a screen that size, the fact it causes headaches and nausea means people are better off sticking to a wii.

If it weren't for Mercenaries 3d I'd totally be on your side.

It's not an experiment if it's taking a popular pick up and play mode and making a whole game dedicated to it. Maybe it is... Mercs is just too fun for me. *fires handcannon*

oh yeah. I agree.
But don't fault the games for being on a faulty system. RE and maybe mario kart is all I care about really.
Zelda is meh since I'ver played OoT fifty times over, and everything else meh.

The "headache and nausea" thing amuses me no end.
There are health and safety precautions (not using the 3d mode at all if young children are playing, and taking frequent breaks for everyone else, say fifteen minutes every half an hour)all over the packaging, and are even built into the home screen, and you can guarantee that 99% of those who've reported feeling unwell have ignored them. It'd be like sticking a fork into a plug socket then complaining it shocks you.
I've not tried any really long sessions so far, perhaps an hour at most, but it really isn't any tougher on the eyes than a PSP or mobile phone screen. As usual, it's been blown way out of proportion.
I digress. Mario Kart had always been great, this should be no different.

and plus taking a break after 30 minutes of playing seems counter intuitive.

whether or not you get nausea when playing in 3D does also vary from person to person though...
I don't have a 3DS but I do have a 3DTV and i get the same safety precautions to take a regular break and all... I had been playing Killzone 3 for a couple of hours straight and wasn't bothered with it at all, but the misses apparently can't stand to watch it and she gets immense headaches...
I can imagine people being really discomforted with the 3DS while others don't have any problems with it whatsoever..

3DS at least gives you the option to alter (and even turn off) the 3D effect, and one of the first things you have to do when you power it up is set a 3d level that you'e comfortable with. The fact is that 3D, be it film or DS or anything else, is essentially tricking your brain into seeing something that isn't really there. As a result, your eyes and brain are constantly trying to focus on objects that are getting nearer or further away from you... only they aren't actually moving at all, it's the illusion of depth that gives people nausea / headaches. It's the same principal as motion sickness; you're seeing one thing, your body is feeling another, and the brain can't work out exactly what's happening so you end up feeling nauseous.
In any event, I've never had a probem with travel sickness, motion sickness, or 3d sickness. Yay for me.

And this is why 3d is one of the more stupid fads technology has gone through in the past decade.

The past decade? I'm goping to make myself look like an old fart again, but the entertainment industry has been trying 3D for way longer than just a decade. There were a spate of (utterly crap) films made in 3d in the 80s, but 3d had a push in the 1950s, and it's earliest origins go decades further back than that, so if you think the big 3D push is a recent Hollywood brainchild, you're sadly mistaken.
Besides, it's selling the technology woefully short to simply label it a "stupid fad". When it's done well, you cannot dispute the fact that it's adds real visual depth and a sense of immersion. Heck, just look at Avatar - a big part of the appeal was the tremendous 3D world created for it. The characters and story were never going to match up, and in 3D you really did feel part of it. I digress. Point is, when 3D is done well it's a million miles from being a stupid fad. In the cinema at least.

having a 3DTV i even think the 3D is better than in the cinemas... but good luck having someone actually believe you on it
if anyone would actually play Killzone 3 or Motorstorm 3D Rift or Apocalypse, they'd know it's really impressive. it really does give you the feeling that you could actually step into the world and be part of it.

I've actually never played a video game in 3d, at least before 3DS. I'm a huge gadget freak, but even I couldn't justify a 3dtv just yet having forked out for a full HD LCD only two years ago. Like many people, I'm waiting for the price to drop a little before I buy that 55" Panasonic I've had my eye on...
Glad to see someone else appreciates the merits of 3D at least!

Wearing paper glasses with one blue lens and one red lens once every two years is different than almost making it mandatory for every movie that comes out.
