OMG taht has possibly the best intro movie to a game i've seen this gen, generally speaking the koei intros are epic but this was really epic.

Also i have Ken's manga costume hmm not sure if i got this heart thing activated but the game isn't meant to be released yet so that could be why.

I can safely say a levelled up kenshiro is a freaking beast.

Just played the tutorial followed by the new Level 0 (added into the western release), and his speed, power up range of moves is considerably better and i mean a helluva lot better I was willing for him to be a bit shit considering hokuto is the power style in this game but he's not.

Also enemy count is shocking. There also appears to be modifiers on each of the moves when you get to higher levels which will inherently change is fighting style this could be interesting.

In ths tutorial stage and the Level 0 his move set has notable differences.

Alright time for some myth busting.

Complaints i've heard so far, which aren't true:

This is simply not true, you can cancel out of combos and link them with the use of the dodge function with R1. Combos are slower at lower levels but, considering how the dodge action is an instant cancel, there is no delay you have no excuse to be hit due to being in a hit animation. Also using circle moves the really strong ones you are invincible i'm not sure if you can cancel out of these but i don't think there is a reason to either due to you being invincible while performing these.

I made a very big point as to why the western version was superior it has tweaked AI. While i'm playing on chapter 1 i am being bombarded with enemy attacks from all directions. They will happily circle you and hit you in the back and effectively try to bundle you at times jumping in a huge mob.

Having completed chapter 1 i found i got a C rank and only seemed to have completed 4 objectives. So it looks like revisiting old levels to get the full experience from the game is needed. Not like you needed any encouragement to play this game more but its all good.

Leveling works via the meridian chart (IIRC they use this system in acupuncture and stuff, and other types of medicine, can't remember it actually being referred to in HnK but it obviously used this principle).

This allows you freedom of customization i like this system. You will have to learn various skills to get to other branches. This means you can effectively create your own Ken whish is a nice touch, you can make him a tank, offensive or based more on the special moves. Personally i'm going for attack and then just going to unlock the additional moves i'm not so bothered about special moves yet i want to be able to combo freely.

In terms of the english VA I absolutely despise the voices for Ken and Bat, but the rest of the cst so far is good, the lines from the thugs are all stuff you'd expect them to say and the bosses have decent enough VA. I'm gonna play through with english VA and then japanese after.

Also Dream mode for Mamiya and Shin are unlocked after copmleteing chapter 1 this is different to the asian version.

Yeah, DLC won't be activated until the official release date. You'll have to wait.

Alright I got up to chapter 5 in Kenshiro's mode

I have currently unlocked:
Rei and Mamiya legendary mode and tutorial (after completing Chapter 2)
Mamiya and Shin dream mode (after completing Chapter 1)
Jagi dream mode (after completing chapter 4)

Mamiya seems to specialise in long range attacks adn has lots of AoE attacks. Camera also seems to focus on her butt whenever it can without messing up gameplay.

Rei is fast and looks really flash but has this annoying effect whenever he goes into hyper mode (which is conatantly) the screen goes blue)

Jagi has very unorthodox and awesome moves.

Everyone has a similar meridian system to unlock moves all are fairly huge and would probably take a long time to max.

What is there in terms of bonus content and stuff?

First ff you only have Kenshiro and his story (aka legendary) mode. This consists of 14 chapters. There are a total of 8 playable characters and each of Kenshiro's chapters are very long. Each level ends with a boss fight. There maybe several sub bosses. Generally speaking sub bosses and bosses will be what kills you while minions whittle you down in the meantime.

So you have 7 characters to unlock. 8 in total.

5 characters have legendary modes.
All missions in legendary mode have bonus objectives i'm not sure about dream mode.
All 8 characters have a Dream mode (all dream mode levels have optional co-op) and all players can play in each others dream mode missions in free mode.

All 8 characters have extensive levelling up systems which allow you to unlock multiple moves, specials, abilities and upgrades.
One of the charactrers has an alternate version to unlock a presickness version which is basically a better version of him.

So assuming you only played everything only once then the game would be stupidly huge.

There are also 2 download to buy characters who are fullly upgradable and can be used in dream mode, they also come with extra missions.

Wasteland seems to eb the exception from what i've seen so far most of the levels are in decayed urban environments. With hidden routes through destructible buildings.

All in all its an absolutely huge game and thats excluding the replay value from trying to perfect characters and get 100% on levels.

In chapter 4 there's one bit where there's 3 sub bosses or more in the same area you couldn't use that trick. Also hokuto zankai ken sucks you wanna use the kicking one it kills everything around you. No idea what its called but its the higher level version of that.

It still pisses me off to no end how they don't bother to pronounce the English subtitles names and just pronounce the Japanese ones and then sound awful while they do so.

Yeah i would he just say one hundred crack fist of the north star, if they raelly want they can just put the japanese names there. It all sounds out of place.

oh...whoops. XD I've only unlocked the Boulder Wave move so far. I've literally just been spreading out from the middle randomly.

I basiically upped attack primarily, then i went for move unlocks not specials and then i increased my red bar (not sure what its called).

Having only just finished chapter 4 i have ridiculous power in all my triangle finishers and my square combo has got some awesome rapid punches in it now. not as awesome as hundred crak yet but i think if i hit one more i'll get that in my square combo.

To confirm mastery improves triangle attack and the other move unlock improves square attacks by having 2/3 bars of red you can unlock the more powerful specials and those are freaking insane. Though they are hard to get up as you can't be hit much at all.

what modes are there? is it just basic musou and free?

This is significantly better then anything koei has done to date. Characters are completely different, I mentioned modes and stuff above.

But basically a Legendary mode (similar to musou mode), but gqame is objective based none of that kill a guard captain there's no gates. If i'm in an area thugs might start jumping over walls to attack me. The thugs will attack super aggressively especially if there buddies are there. The better you do the tougher the game gets, but you character gets temporary boosts to, this is an awesome feature. Story is great and the missions so far were variwed which i liked.

Dream mode has multiplayer there's 8 characters for it with more DLC characters to come. There is also a free mode to. Basically dream mode has a bunch more missions for each characters you can use a free mode to play any missions with any character to.

The reason this is so awesome though is the levelling system you'll really appreciate having levelled up your character how awesome they get.

Are there any proper cutscenes? In the demo it was just that Japanese thing where text, audio, and a character portrait appeared even though they were nowhere to be seen on screen.
