| It's an opera. If you hate musicals, then you'll obviously won't like it. | |

| Nah I don't think that's it, she's a fan of musicals and of the story of Les Mis. That was just one of her complaints after seeing it, that there wasn't any break between songs to really emphasize them. | |

| yeah, there's a small spoken sentence here and there, but it's 99,99% singing.. But i didn't mind, i thought it was great. even Russel Crowe. it was odd seeing and hearing him sing, but it was pretty OK. | |

| Doesn't it have rape in a film rated as a U?
Anyway I saw the opera and it was shit so i've spent more than enough money on this film and won't even consider watching it in any shape or form.
Also Gladiator needed extended singing scenes.

| well, the character Fantine is more or less obliged to have sex with a guy for money.. wouldn't immediately call it rape... but yeah... it's a very short segment, and you really don't see anything of it... you see the guy lay on top of her, and then it immediately cuts to the guy "finishing" and leaving.. but no nudity or anything. | |

| She prostitutes herself out of necessity, it's unfortunate but not rape. | |

| I recently watched Chronicle and Knowing. Both were better than expected. Chronicle is the best found footage film I've seen, and it's an interesting subject for a found footage movie. Also had a neat twist in that because the character had telekinetic powers, he didn't need to be holding to camera all the time. It could just float around. I've seen people say that the kids should have done more with their powers, or that there should have been a villain for them to fight, but I disagree. For a recent Nic Cage film, Knowing was also surprisingly good (as in I was surprised that it was mildy good). Sure, the main plot point doesn't make much sense when you look back on it, but I did not expect the film to go where it went, and it did it well enough. - Spoiler:
Basically Nic Cage finds this list of numbers and he figures out that they correspond to the dates of major disasters and he starts trying to prevent them. But the last date predicts the end of the entire world.
And then at the end of the movie the whole world is actually destroyed.

| I quite liked Chronicle. They definitely didn't need some supervillain to fight. | |

| He was never really a supervillain. He became the kind of kid that might bring a gun to school, but with superpowers.
Plus the movie seemed to take place in a world where the idea of superheroes and villains didn't exist, because they never mention having seen anything like it in any form of media. They'd never even heard of telekinesis before.

| Saw Oblivion. It was decent, but it's definitely a film to avoid picking holes in because it will probably fall apart. | |

| lol, was about to post that I saw Oblivion too.. it was decent indeed, bit predictable in some places though but I enjoyed it. the ending was kind of meh though... - Spoiler:
I mean, technically, it's the same guy, but then in some way it isn't, you know... so that felt kind of, i don't know, it didn't really work to make me feel like it's a happy ending.

| Since the film festival was last week I managed to catch three movies.
Dead Sushi - hysterical movie where genetically modified sushi kills people on a company trip to an inn in the mountains. Intentionally crappy special effects and excellent acting made this one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time.
Stoker - by the Oldboy guy comes a movie where the girl from Alice in Wonderland is creepy, Nicole Kidman is creepy, and some dapper guy is handsome-creepy, which I still don't know if I like. It's about Mia Wasikowska (the girl) and her mom Nicole Kidman, and the girl's uncle, who moves in the day her father dies in a mysterious car accident. Something feels wrong. For both the viewers and the characters. And it's creepy. The atmosphere is never comfortable, and I was transfixed on the screen, thinking "what is this what is going to happen this is so uncomfortable what is she doing what is that for what does that mean" nonstop. Really good.
The Thieves - Korean Ocean's 11. At the start it looks like it'll be just that. Some Korean dudes team up with some Chinese dudes to do a heist on a casino, but everyone's racist, no one trusts anyone, and there is a really cute undercover police officer who may or may not be with them or against them. The movie took a weird turn at about the 2/3 mark, but it was really exciting, at times rather funny, and most of the actors where quite good. This movie made me realize that Korean and Cantonese are languages I will probably never try to learn. When they in some (very few) scenes finally spoke English or Japanese I closed my eyes and sighed a sigh of relief. Still, really good. Fleshed out characters (some of them at least), pretty girls, climbing on buildings, tricking guards, etc, etc.
I also thought one of the thieves was one of the members of SHINee, but turned out he's just some guy. Weird.

| I watched American Mary and The Stuff today. American Mary is one of the better rape revenge films I've seen but considering how much it was hyped to me I expected a bit more from it. The Stuff is a classic horror movie about killer ice cream, enough said. | |

| I just watched these two movies:
Takers - A group of bank robbers find their multi-million dollar plan interrupted by a hard-boiled detective. And also, they were wearing fucking suits. This movie was fucking classy.
Cry Wolf - Eight unsuspecting high school seniors at a posh boarding school, who delight themselves on playing games of lies, come face-to-face with terror and learn that nobody believes a liar - even when they're telling the truth.
Takers was awesome, as is any heist movie (usually), And Cry Wolf was, at the best, ok for a thriller. They chose such a bad actor for the main character and it pissed me off the whole time. Also very predictable.
