Moose would probably love this series, because he always talks about how the Buu saga had a great mix of action, seriousness and humour. That is One Piece. Even after 10 years the series still has that happy go lucky feeling while also still making you go "okay, now they're truly screwed!".

And because Oda actually took 2 years to plan the story out before writing it, so that it has none of those iffy plotholes.

No. I haven't read DB for a while now. I'd read One Piece if I could be bothered to search for a place to download it from. I know there's places like onemanga and bleachexile, but I'd rather actually have it (and I sure as hell ain't buying it all).

Yep. Although originally he planned the story to take 5 years, but after having so much fun in writing it, he lenghtened arcs and all that stuff.

However, the story was planned out from the beginning. A good example is a nameless guy who's only seen in one flashbackpanel somwhere around chapter 18, but turns out to be an amazingly powerful and important character around chapter 500.

In OP's case fan translations are way more accurate than the Viz translations.

The first couple of arcs are short and are wrapped up quickly. It isn't until later when the epic stuff starts.

That's all well and good, but there's still lots to catch up on.
