End of Evangelion is far better end to the series than the final few episodes.

The series might as well have been called "Fuck You Mecha Anime!".<br /><br />Shinji's a self-obsessed 14 year old introvert who expects and even wants everyone he gets to like to betray him, and when they don't he blows a small thing out of proportion so he can pretend they've betrayed him, all so he can justify wallowing in self-pity and blame everyone else for his problems.<br /><br />The series ended with a 2 episode long trip through Shinji's mind as he learned to love himself, from what I remember (I've only actually got that far into the show once. Every other time I've tried to watch I just give up about 10 episodes in), and the actual plot of the series went unresolved.<br /><br />But then EoE went over those last episodes and started with Shinji at his whiniest time ever, just after killing his gay buddy, and the fate of the world, literally, was plonked into a depressed 14 year old's hands and he chose to wipe humanity off the face of the planet because NOBODY WUVS HIM. Except Asuke, who he kept, and the film ended with him wanking over her again.
