When did games start having proper trailers?

I don't mean like a TV spot or something, but a proper trailer. When did this start happening?

Yeeeeeeears back. Maybe during the ps1 games generation, I remember FFVII having a lengthy and pretty epic trailer, wish I could have the music playing during it, it's not part of the actual OST. >_<

Basically they'd shove actual game trailers on different demo disks released each month in gaming magazines and such. Can't say if they made trailers for games before the ps1/Nintendo 64 era, can't really remember.

That's not a great trailer for FFVII, and it's full of spoilers! Doesn't it look dated now?

Well obviously, but I'm saying it's still a trailer and was awesome when it was first out, who cares about anything else, this is the "When did games start having proper trailers?" thread not a judging topic, dammit.
