| Because Sephiroth didn't spend a good several years in it.
Same goes for Genesis' decaying body.
The Lifestream was protected for the most part. It didn't become tainted until Sephiroth poured the Jenova Cell's into the lifestream.
Or it was some shit like that.

That was Mako, not the Lifestream. It's the thing that caused Cloud to believe he was Zack. Then he dropped into an entire island's worth of it and came out a vegetable, to his luck. Because he probably could've died.

Because he probably could've died. i thought mako was the processed form of the lifestreams energy. that one village was sinking into an upheaval in the lifestream (the village elder dude tells you, and you can even visit the edge of the upheaval) and eventually collapsed into it, taking cloud *and tifa, if i remember correctly* along for a mind-bending journey which ended with cloud being turned into a potato. at least that's what i remember...

| Yes, Mako is the processed form of the Lifestream.
Tobi's memory is a bit off though. Cloud was already a vegetable when he fell in, having been washed up there after another excursion into the lifestream when the weapos awake in the Northern Crater. The doctors treat him as best they can, and eventually Ultima Weapon attacks the village. You see him off, but then the lifestream swallows the village, taking Cloud and Tifa with it. After a third bath in it, Cloud is monumentally fucked up by this point, and it's only with Tifa's help that he is able to piece his shattered psyche back together again and emerge as his true self. Who, you'll note, wasn't moping in the slightest, he just got on with the task of finding and kicking two shades of shit outta Sephiroth.

| Indeed it did. And since I didn't save when I had the chance and I needed the PSP for transferring music from one computer to another, it was really fucking annoying. Still brilliant, though. | |

| Yes, indeed. Time to pay a visit to the Chocobo farm. | |

| It's optional. You really don't have to go there unless you want to breed a chocobo.
Which no one should even fucking try.

| Optional? Breeding Chocob's might be, but there's no way across the marsh without a Chocobo, and you can only get one of those with the Lure Materia bought from the farm. You need to visit it at least once.
As for where then, go across the marsh, marvel at Sephiroth's idea of a kebab, then you can either do optional quests at Fort Condor, or head to Junon.

Kill Midgarsolom or stick to the mountain. Not really that hard.

| There's no way you're beating a Midgar Zolom this early in the game. They can OHKO a party member with a regular attack, and Beta can kill your whole party. They have about 3000 hp at a time when your party hits for around 120 per hit.
Unless they've changed something for the re release, sticking to the mountain doesn't work either. You can't move fast enough and the Zolom will track you, getting to you before you're clear.

| Of course the Chocobo is the easiest way you could try an outrun it. It's not impossible, I did it. | |
