But still, no one can predict what other people will do, so Light still had a smart plan going.

No one also predicted L would die, and look how that went.

Light was determined to be the Main Character, so he was protected by that "Main (Hero) Barrier" so of course L was going to die.
But Light lost that barrier after Volume 7 when he turned into a cocky fool.
He was smart, but that he lost what allowed him to win.

This is the same moron who thought he could get away with mass murder and seem like a hero.

Maybe he wasn't a hero, but he did technically help the world.

And? The end doesn't justify the means. Killing several people just to help others is what Dictators do.

Face it. Ryuk dropped the notebook, which Light just randomly happened to pick up, just so he could fuck with some mortals. Light just happened to prove very entertaining for the long haul, and like any appliance was disposed off when he failed to serve his purpose any further. In fact, Ryuk outright tells Light that when he dies, it will be at Ryuk's hand. Henceforth, Light had long since had it coming!
