| GamePro (UK?) : 4.5/5
Pros: Co-op mode rocks; jaw-dropping graphics; excellent action-oriented gamplay.
Cons: Emphasis on action might turn off some fans; campaign loses steam towards the end
PSXExtreme (Polish multi-platform magazine, NOT the website)
Score: 9-/10
- Outside of co-op, it's basically RE4 HD. - Story info: The game explains how the virus came into existance, describes events that happened even before RE0 and sheds new light on a few things. Las Plagas are also involved in the African incident.
- The destructability of the environment has been somewhat improved but it's still limited to what the designers allow us to destroy.
- Sheva's AI is pretty good: she moves away from our line of fire, provides help when needed, pick up ammo and herbs that the player misses and so on.
- Co-op is fantastic and he really likes that a second player can join in at any given moment (though if a person does join us we are automatically brought back to the last activated checkpoint)
- There's no merchant in the game, all our weapon purchases/ upgrades are carried out in a menu accessed between chapters. On that note, you're always short on cash because there's a plethora of weapons to buy/ upgrade. (about the Upgrade system: you upgrade the Firepower, Reload Speed, Capacity and Critical Hit %)
- He says that the biggest "issue" in the game is the control system. It's a like it or leave it relationship. He, himself, states that at first he had a negative approach to this archaic control scheme but now he understands that it was a conscious design decision. This control scheme lets the enemies get the drop on us and makes the game more challenging.
- The context sensitive cover system is introduced along with the gun wielding Majini.
- He mentions that he wishes this game would have more trickier to take down foes like the Regenerators in RE4.
- The boss fights are a bit worse than in RE4.
- The says that the villige looks phenomenal (especially durning the day) but it goes downhill from there. The Factory and the Caves lack finesse, however, the latter can mesmerize you with its lightining effects and excellent texture work.
- The "puzzles" (if you can call them that) in RE5 boil down to go there, get the key, turn the velve and so on.
- The game looks a bit better on the Xbox360 but those are minute details which likely most people won't even notice.
- The character models are top notch.
- The characters themselves are rather bland personality-wise. The dialogues in the game are rather mediocre, however, the voice acting is fine.
- The story as a whole is rather bland, predictable and unispired but RE fans will be satisfied with it.
- It took him 12 hours to complete the game but he immediately returned to it because of the plentiful bonuses and unlockables.
Some side notes: - Monsters from RE1 will make a comeback.
- They were forbidded by CAPCOM to write about a certain someone appearing in the game, the bonus mode and the other unlockables, certain locations in the game, print screenshots from the final chapter of the game or those showcasing QTEs.
Famitsu: 38/40
- 20~25 hours play time - The unlockables which you get for clearing the game are pretty good, probably have the best clear-game extras ever for a RE game - No real evolution from Resident Evil 4 - Cooperative play is an important element
Let it be known that Famitsu gave a perfect score to Nintendogs.

Fuck it, if the protagonist could live through an infestation of zombies but can't handle this then I'm out.
I hate protagonists that are pussies. - DevilKingBaal wrote:
- Almost everything on the PS3 and 360 has excellent graphics.
It's RE4 with less ammo.
Professional Mode wasn't really that hard.
Umbrella is revived, more zombie-like things pop up, Jill is alive, and Wesker is still a maniacal asshole. What's new?
You're still under the impression this is Survival Horror. - DevilKingBaal wrote:
- MGS4, DMC4, SCIV, and GTA IV are others I can name off the top of my head that have graphics that were acclaimed the exact same way.
So there is more ammo? Then fuck it, this game is going to be RE4 with more weapons.

- Exactly. But RE5's Veteran and Professional are going to be tough.
I highly doubt it.
RE is meant to scare you. Not make you feel like a gun-toting badass. This plot just feels like it's gonna have some plot holes.
They still want people to believe this is survival horror. - DevilKingBaal wrote:

- - Resident Evil 5 (10/10/9/9, 38 points): "There's no dramatic change as there was from RE3 to RE4, but there's still an evolutionary process here," as one put it. "No major surprises; just an ease of play and a visual, control, and gameplay standard that's top-of-the-line," said another. And that, really, is the worst you can say about Capcom's latest, a game otherwise described as a "massive, valuable package."
With the basic feel largely the same, "the main difference from RE4 is the important role Sheva takes and how much working with her is part of advancing through the game," one said. "The difficulty level can change a lot depending on what weapons you give her or what you ask her to do." Another noted that co-op is what makes this game unique at all, especially online: "Co-op is about more than just playing the story; two hardcore players can go for high scores online, and you definitely get enough inspiration to keep on playing this way. Sheva under AI control is pretty decent, but I wish there were more ways to direct her moves." As a third put it, "playing alone is no problem, but co-op is just so much more fun."
The challenge level is well done, according to Famitsu's reviewers ("I'm very impressed with the way there's always some sort of route open to you, no matter how good or bad you are at games"), and the writers didn't have any of the problems with the controls that demo players have brought up -- "being able to change weapons with the directional pad really speeds up the game," and "getting to choose from several control types is also nice." The graphics are top-notch, too, of course: "The parched atmosphere the light and shadows present is amazing, putting you that much deeper into the game."

Hell, it's original. It deserves some points for that.
