Interesting. I didn't know screen tearing was worse in 1080i. PC games tend to have screen tearing without v-sync turned on and v-sync tends to kill the framerate. If I were to bump the resolution to 1080i levels, the screen tearing would be worse wouldn't it?

Mine is an HD ready 720p/1080i tv. I don't mind that it's not 1080p except that closer up the pixels are easier to distinguish.

1080p isn't actually that beneficial for games, as very few of them actually run natively in 1080p, they just upscale from 720p. Only Blu Ray or HD DVD run natively in 1080p, so it's only with them that you get the full benefit of the extra resolution.

If the HDTV is only marked as HD Ready, then it cannot display at 1080p. If it's advertised as 1080p compatible, or something similar, then it just means that it will accept a 1080p signal, but downscale it to 720p in order to display it.

Hey, nerd or not, that's useful info. There's nothing worse than buying something only to find out it's not what you want (aka it's a piece of crap). It took me a long time and a lot of research before I even thought of buying a new tv and I still don't know everything.

I just lucked out in my HDTV purchase. I wanted a 19" one, and the store I went to only had one model in stock because it was near the end of a sale. I had a look, and it had everything I needed, so I bought it.

Should've gotten the PS3. The electric piano broke within a month because I spilled water on it, the powerbar (chinup bar) was useful I suppose. I don't have that any longer either, left it stuck in my old room in New York.
