I imagine decent gameplay and a lot of content making a return and being improved(like those God damn mini-games peppered throughout the original FFVII), but a so-so re-imagining of the main storyline and characters.
So long as the revised dialogue and interactions feel more human and real instead of being rendered into the usual super duper soap operatic writing, I think it'll be a worthwhile experience. If they pull it off, maybe some of the original dialogue's more cheesier moments can also be patched up as well.
Spoiler:
"Aeris/Aerith will no longer talk, no longer laugh, cry...... or get angry...... What about us...... what are WE supposed to do? What about my pain? My fingers are tingling. My mouth is dry. My eyes are burning! WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!?!?!? SEPHEHRROTTTTTTTTRGHGH!!!!!!!"
One other thing I'd like would be the game to have a more vivid and colorful art direction akin to how the original FFVII was presented. The character models would obviously be more realistic, but the overall palette remains varied. SE has taken a liking to going all Hollywood mode with a number of FFVII-related media and making the world color coded. Excluding AC and its craptastic greyness of severe angst and boringness, the visuals are usually covered with green(geddit, cuz dah game's iconic color and dah lifestream is green, lol2deep4u) tints and shades of yellow and making everything look more drab on top of it. It's not very appealing and it kind of undermines the world's particular charm where there's a whole lot of horrific and fucked up shit going on, and yet it was all hidden underneath a deceptively bright and colorful exterior.
I hope a good deal of goofy moments is retained too. Cross-dressing Cloud has been confirmed to be a thing, so I hope they keep the humorous stuff coming all the way through instead of just a few bones thrown here and there.

I just hope they don't retcon in all the extended universe stuff from the likes of Crisis Core; Angeal and Genesis have no business being in FFVII!

Going by the trailer, Cloud's sword has its original design instead of the minor gold alterations from the compilation. By DBZ fanboy standards, that means all of that stuff is non-canon now.
Yes, just because of that.

Squenix carefully planned this out, guise. This is what they wanted all along.
They knew that too many hipsters hated on FFVII, so they decided to remaster FFX as bait to get them to move their hatred to that game. Now all of the sudden FFVII is a treasure. Then they release more ports to get the fans angry and hungry for the real remake.
Just according to keikaku.

Do people really hate X? I see people adore 10 (Not 10-2). I find 10 ok.
Also is hating FF7 a hipster thing? Its almost the mixed reaction video game I've see.
I also heard they are now remaking more FF games. I am guessing that will involve 6, 8, and 9 most likely.

By DBZ fanboys, I am guessing you are referring to them disowning GT and making it non-canon?

People hate on X now. They didn't a few years back. And yes, hating FFVII was a hipster thing a while ago. Now people are saying how great VII is.

Possible.
I have this irk feeling that FF7Re will just be FF 13 with FF7 plot with more melodrama and "great" dialogue.
Even I hate 7, I wouldn't wish it to be 13. No game should be FF13.........the horror.

You know that one time you're not allowed to use one.
Don't worry they'll likely add the character in as dlc.

Phoenix downs are for people who are knocked out. This is why all party members in battle being rendered unconscious is pretty horrifying. You don't know what the enemies are going to do with the gang after everything goes dark and switches to the Game Over screen.

Seeing how they're mostly wildlife and monsters, eat them.

Death sentence is horribly named then as is L4 suicide and death.

Those are just mistranslations. The real names are Chloroform , L4 Roofie, and Coma.
Looking forward to this correction:

I love how much people are shitfitting over Uematsu not being involved with the remake's remastered score, as if he had ever been consistently involved with any substantial rearrangements and redone soundtracks before. People just interpret the news as "No Uematsu equals bad" despite the fact that this is the norm and to be expected. They don't seem to realize that the majority of rearranged works in the past for other remakes, concerts, albums, and so on were all done by various other composers/arrangers.
People also seem to have forgotten that it was Uematsu who pushed for the much whined about FFX HD remastered soundtrack to be a little less conventional:
Quote :
"If we’re remastering the soundtrack, we might as well change it dramatically than conservatively, right?"
Had he been involved with the remake project, the remastered score would probably be revised similarly instead of just being really faithful live-recordings akin to the orchestral rearrangements heard in the past, and severe butthurt would inevitably ensue.

Them shades, man.
Also, glad the art direction doesn't look THAT much like Advent Children. They are attempting to put some color into it.
