I watched this tonight, i liked the film but....
Spoiler:
I thought the film was episode 4,5&6 in one in a roundabout way, luke was training jedi until one killed everyone forcing him into hiding (yoda in ep3). Having the father/ son connection (although opposite way), death star/ death planet (right down to destroying it).

Y'know, for a fanbase that despises all of the prequels' shenanigans and lame ways they made the universe feel smaller, it's weird how I come across people that genuinely hope Rey turns out to be Luke's child or something. Our early predictions of her being related to one of the Skywalkers wound up not coming true (for now) and we essentially dodged a bullet. Now people want such a dumb twist to actually happen in the sequel. Do people not realize how terrible that would be after what we experienced in the latest film?
Rey's whole story revolved around letting go of her abandonment and moving on to having a better and more fulfilling life. Shoving in another familial twist wouldn't just be a mere contrived reveal like the whole Luke and Leia thing, it'd outright HURT the story of Episode VII and undermine her character arc. It's basically giving her a happy ending on top of what was already a happy ending for her, because all these classic characters have become a part of her life anyway. Rey would become nothing but a Mary Sue. She's already super special awesome as it is.
They have a good thing going now where the one confirmed child of Skywalker blood is actually an antagonist, and the new protagonists are completely unrelated. Don't destroy it all by turning everything into what would be borderline fanfiction.
People decided that TFA was a good movie before they even saw it. Likewise, people decided the prequels sucked just because they didn't like Jar Jar.
To be fair, literally the only redeeming thing about Jar Jar is that fan theory that was circulating not long ago.
Jar Jar sucked; that much is clear. But if you actually look at the role he has in Episode I, it's extremely minimal. Less than a few minutes of dialogue altogether and getting the shit kicked out of him (not a bad thing IMO) or just being in the background.
