I've said this before to someone else, but there's something about the CGI/animation that looks off to me... it looks really crap and so obviously fake at some points, especially the space stuff.

George Lucas love his CGI way too much. Next to James Cameron, they have some weird fetish for it. It is now extremely annoying.
For some reason, I think this will be an OK Star Wars movie. Not amazing like the original trilogy and not terrible like episode I (Though 2 is over hated and 3 was great)

Y'know, I really hope the protagonist isn't the child of one of the older characters. Have the dude who's constantly panting in the trailer be the lead, while the Jedi spawn of whoever is a supporting character.
Most likely. The possibility of her being Luke's child is approximately 3,720 to 1.

Ending on a cliffhanger and Gwendoline Christie's character not doing anything despite the hype annoyed me but it was otherwise good. Felt more like the originals than prequels which was nice. Action was all good and far less focused on CGI compared to prequels and there was a shitload of fanservice. The only other criticism I have is kind of a spoiler so I'll tag it:
Spoiler:
Rae and, to a greater extent, Finn, not getting their shit absolutely wrecked by Kylo Ren seemed dumb as did Rae covering two movies worth of Luke's training in about 45 minutes without anyone teaching her but I can deal with it I guess. Really hope the "Rae and Ben/Ren were in Luke's academy as children and had their memories wiped" theory isn't true.

I really liked it. It paralleled A New Hope so powerfully though. It did a lot of things really well.

Ren was already injured by Chewie and Finn.

Hamill getting into shape was all for the next one!? I. UGH. WHO. HEH. HO. ARGH. HNNNG.
Aside from that, it is still a pretty good movie. One could say it is guilty of being too "safe" and its plot was essentially a retread on old ground, but I think everyone pretty much knew that going in. The first dip in the pool was always expected to be something that eased everyone into the universe with familiarity before they really took this new era to more original and unique territories. What mattered most was if they executed it well or not. I think it's safe to say they did a damn good job of it. Hell, there's a certain major plot development that EVERYONE saw coming a mile away before this movie was even close to release, and it's still probably the best damn part in the entire thing. The lighting, the setting, the acting, the whole atmosphere of that entire bit. All of it was perfection. It was the kind of dramatic high point that the prequels could only dream of coming close to reaching.
Being the resident movie music fanboy, I think the musical score was also exceptionally done for the most part (it's John Williams, so duh). The new leitmotifs don't really measure up to all the classic ones established in both previous trilogies, but I think Rey's material has some potential there, as does Finn's. The best part of it is basically all the rearrangements of older themes and the general compositions being top notch and serving as examples of how film music SHOULD be done in this day and age.
Spoiler:
Also, anyone else notice them reusing that piece from when Luke raced home to find his aunt and uncle burnt to a toast? Teehee, I did. Its usage for when Rey force grabs Anakin's old lightsaber and cements herself as a Jedi-to-be is thematically fitting, given that it mirrors the turning point in Luke's life. Also, that material for when Luke is found sounds especially interesting. It sounds slightly similar to parts of the Imperial March/Vader's theme, so I wonder if Williams was establishing a new "wise old mentor" motif for him. I hope to see that get developed in the sequel.

And here I was thinking Disney wouldn't put Leia back into her slave bikini.

Maybe I should watch Star Wars properly. Only ones I've seen all the way through in one sitting are Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith.

Spoiler:
Y'know, for a fanbase that despises all of the prequels' shenanigans and lame ways they made the universe feel smaller, it's weird how I come across people that genuinely hope Rey turns out to be Luke's child or something. Our early predictions of her being related to one of the Skywalkers wound up not coming true (for now) and we essentially dodged a bullet. Now people want such a dumb twist to actually happen in the sequel. Do people not realize how terrible that would be after what we experienced in the latest film?
Rey's whole story revolved around letting go of her abandonment and moving on to having a better and more fulfilling life. Shoving in another familial twist wouldn't just be a mere contrived reveal like the whole Luke and Leia thing, it'd outright HURT the story of Episode VII and undermine her character arc. It's basically giving her a happy ending on top of what was already a happy ending for her, because all these classic characters have become a part of her life anyway. Rey would become nothing but a Mary Sue. She's already super special awesome as it is.
They have a good thing going now where the one confirmed child of Skywalker blood is actually an antagonist, and the new protagonists are completely unrelated. Don't destroy it all by turning everything into what would be borderline fanfiction.

loved the movie, but...
Spoiler:
some random dick on a random facebook group i'm a member of spoiled Han Solo's death, and that kinda ruined it for me, I kept waiting the entire movie for when it was going to happen, and when it happened, the shock or disbelief just wasn't there for me, which is a complete shame. even though, it was pretty clear watching the movie that something was going to happen to him..

People decided that TFA was a good movie before they even saw it. Likewise, people decided the prequels sucked just because they didn't like Jar Jar.

To be fair, literally the only redeeming thing about Jar Jar is that fan theory that was circulating not long ago.
