| Well there was hardly a big hype train leading up to it. All the speculation was negative and most of it was confirmed. | |

| Hmmm
well the XBOX360 was codename for X, Square, Circle which was a codename for playstation
so Xbox one must be referring to doing a one like a wee, so they are copying Nintendo.
The other logic is its a countdown to self destruction.

| so this TV stuff is only available in the US at launch, and it's not even sure it's gonna work with every TV service provider.
nice job Microsoft, spend most of your presentation on something that's only available in the US at launch and is not even guaranteed to work with every provider.
wish I remembered where I saw the article..

| Wasn't that obvious when half the announced features revolved around a sport that's only played in America? | |

| well, not to me really, as at the time, I wasn't really sure how it would be integrated into the system. so i just thought, well it's an American company and they're currently in the US, that's why they're showing all of that, and I didn't really think it through at the time.
anyways, I just mentioned it as another point as to why this presentation was so horribly bad, when half the world can't do shit with all that stuff at launch, hell, a lot of people in the US probably can't use it, since as I said, it's not guaranteed to work with all providers..

| Microsoft's biggest achievement with this event was to make the WiiU more appealing. Which I thought was impossible.
The CoD reveal was definitely the most interesting bit though, because it was the only part with any real information on how next gen games will work. Some of the tech they talked about sounds pretty cool. That Sub-D thing will hopefully become common place if it works well.
It's supposed to dynamically increase the polygon count of objects depending on how close they are to the camera. The quality of a model actually increases as you zoom in, creating the illusion that there's the same level of detail from any viewpoint. As opposed to now where stuff looks good from where you're supposed to see it, but if you get the camera in closer it's actually all blocky.

| It hasn't been in any console games to date.
It's essentially just dynamic tessellation though and non-dynamic versions of that have existed for four or five years on PC. Expect to see it used on guns in FPS games and not much else, it's rather resource intensive for not a whole lot of payoff.

| well, it's not exactly the same obviously, but games definitely use high-poly models for things that are up close, that get of lesser quality as you move away from it. (or well, the other way around)
it's basically different quality meshes, that change as you get closer or further away from it. obviously, not exactly the same, but meshes that change quality depending on how far away from it you are is definitely not something new.
but as I said, it's really not up to par with this new tech, I'm just saying it's not exactly new, just a big improvement.

| It's not the same at all though, what you're talking about is swapping between two different models depending on distance. This is adding extra detail to existing models.
EDIT: It's also done for completely different reasons, what you're talking about was done to reduce strain on the GPU when things were a long way away.

| well yeah, but it comes down to the same in the end. better quality the closer you are. but this takes it quite a step further obviously. (whereas in the way I mean, it wouldn't get any better after some point) | |

| So there are no used games on XBox One. This one-time-install is basically a download, and giving the disc to a friend is pointless because if they have to pay full price to play it on their account they might as well buy it themselves. | |

| exactly.
the only way you can play it for free at your friends house, is if he can play it on your account.

| But you will be able to trade/sell "second hand" games in some fashion, no doubt through a Microsoft sanctioned program that takes a slice of the money. It's blatantly a system designed to steal Gamestops monopoly on the used game market. | |
