| Iron Man 3's pretty great. I saw it tonight and aside from my two piss breaks I was completely interested. The fight scenes were great, the music was surprisingly memorable, and I loved the twist with Mandarin, it's so great. About my only problems are that Stark never shuts the fuck up even when the situation calls for it and Rhodes is still kind of an after thought. That being said it's almost as good as the first movie and I can't wait for the rest of Phase 2 to come out. | |

| It was better than Iron Man 2 but not as good as the original. Did any one else think the extremis guys were just too strong? All I kept thinking was that in a fight against the Avengers, Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye would all be killed pretty easily, and while it was genuinely surprising the direction they went with Mandarin, it seems a shame to lose a character with so deep a history for essentially a one-shot joke. | |

I had the same sentiments about the extremis dudes. I just got back from seeing it in IMAX. I thought it was fantastic. My favorite of the 3 Iron Man films. - Spoiler:
My major two gripes were the above, considering that Thor's strength did less than all that and realistically he's ridiculously stronger than those guys. The second was that the suits were too fragile in this. Although my dad brought up a good point and that's that they were probably all prototypes since the main ones got destroyed. But it was still frustrating to see them get fodderized after kicking a little ass. Though these two gripes follow a similar train of thought, I suppose.

Pretty much my point exactly. - Spoiler:
Thor (and Loki) are described as "basically Gods". Thor's physical power is roughly in the same ball-park as Hulk's base strength, and Mjolnir is a weapon "that has no equal". Iron Man's armour is able to take several physical blows from Thor, including a headbutt that does nothing bar leave a small dent, and even takes two blows direct from Mjolnir without too much ill effect. How then is Mike from Neighbours able to cut it in half in a single blow? I get that Extremis is, well, extreme, and that Extremis' run-really-hot-and-cut-stuff is a little different from Thor's purely physical assault, but the manner in which we saw Extremis fodderising the Iron Man armour was a touch too far. In-Universe it just didn't seem consistent.

| This was a good movie with one huge flaw. - Spoiler:
No main villain. Either the Mandarin should have been the real villain, or Killian should have been the focus from the start. As it was, Mandarin got all the build up and no pay off, while Killian got a great pay off with very little build up. It needed to be one or the other.
As for the flimsy suits, I just assumed they were all poorly made. Tony was up Mk 7 in The Avengers and he started Iron Man 3 with Mk 42. He'd just been aimlessly building them without any kind of quality control.

I guess this is bound to happen with different directors (different writers too, right?). The Avengers crew balanced out the four heroes as best as they could without completely undermining their power and the IM3 crew must not have had the same intention. | |
