Upgrades (for lack of a better word) this gen are getting worse and worse...

I'm talking about the games where you pick up an armour or a weapon and its just vastly superior to the one your using. There's hardly ever any of this stuff where you get staggered improvements so that its more useful in situation A over B or playstyle A over B. Most of the time these kinda things just feel tacked on to just make it look like theres more to the game then there is.

FF and KH still retain pretty good upgrades IMO.

We haven't really got a next gen version of those as yet.

Everything just seems dumbed down.

I agree. It's pretty much just laziness or the games are so easy in the first place that getting armor upgrades would just make it ridiculous.

Play Deus Ex HR, Bastion, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (not new but whatever), Mass Effect 2 to an extent, Witcher 2 (coming to 360 this year and supposedly PS3 at some point) or Battlefield.

I know that's not many and for the most part you're right but there are still some games with good progression and little to no casualisation.

Wait battlefield? Whats that doing?

There aren't any guns that aren't viable to use online, they're just all different.
I know it's s stretch to include in that list but I did it anyway.
