Here's a thread to discuss those dang fighting games that have been slightly more popular lately. Generally any game that's pretty popular will have it's own thread so discuss those games there! If you wanna talk about joysticks/arcades/games that aren't Super Street Fighter 4, BlazBlue or Marvel vs Capcom 3, here's a good place to do it!
Games currently out worth paying attention to: Tekken 6: BR (360/PS3) BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II(360/PS3) Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (PS3/360/PC) Marvel Vs Capcom 3 (360/PS3) Arcana Heart 3 (360/PS3) Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online (360/PS3) Mortal Kombat 9 (360/PS3)
Games that are coming out within the future worth paying attention to: Skullgirls Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Tekken x Street Fighter Street Fighter x Tekken Blazblue: Continuum Shift II Plus Super Street Fighter IV AE 2012 King of Fighters XIII Tekken Tag Tournament II Virtua Fighter V The Final Tournament or whatever Darkstalkers (Rerelease to be released for PSN or XBLA) Maybe a new Darkstalkers? Yeah 3rd strike looks gorgeous. It's not really easy to get into. I agree that MvC3 is easy to get into though. Maybe the alpha series, its way more casual.

The alphas are more similar to a casual MvC2.

Really, MvC2 is easier because you only need to learn three of four characters to be good at the game.

On a kind of related note, what would you say is the most noob friendly 2D fighter to get into? I want to get into fighters, but aside from playing some MvC3 and SFIV at a con this summer, I haven't really played them much. I have Darkstalkers Chronicles, but I don't care much for it.
Mortal Kombat and MvC3 are the easiest, but Blazblue is overall the best 2D fighter of this generation. It's got a very decent story too and much more interesting characters.

Blazblue does not have interesting characters and story. There's like three interesting characters of the 15 or so and the story gets to be really fucking stupid even in the first game with how quickly they decide to go for the "every route is canon" crap and it just causes inconsistencies and confusion.

Blazblue's story is fine for a fighting game and when I said the characters were interesting, I meant gameplay-wise. BTW, you can't have a 3S topic without this vid:

That's already in the OP, I linked it under the words "actual footage of daigo *random giiberish*".

Fine for a fighting game is still crappy. If you want a good fighting game story then look for Guilty Gear, it's like the only one.

I like Platinum the Trinity. She's got Heartcatch costumes. Is there any sort of difference between the PSP and PS3 versions, and between Continuum Shift and Calamity Trigger?

Platinum's design is so bad I refuse to spend money on her, fuck ArcSys. But anyways, the PSP version of Continuum Shift is bad don't get it and get Continuum Shift on the PS3 since it's the most recent game.
EDIT: Also, I like how my SF3 thread is being used for fighting game general discussion. Totally the reason I made it man, let me tell you.

You could for no reason whatsoever make a fighting game guide for newbies topic.

VF is good, but dead outside of Japan and even there, T6 is waaay more popular. BB:CS2 is also more successful than SSFIV:AE in Japanese arcades and a better game too.

The fact its dead outside japan doesn't take away from it though. Any tom dick and harry could play tekken to a high level. You need serious skills for games like VF. I won't comment on blazblue as i've never been into it.

I have not seen any news at all about how Blazblue is doing better than SFIV in arcades, especially since even ArcSys games don't do as well as Capcom games over in Japan in general.
EDIT: Also, Buu. When I'm done writing up the 2D Fighter thread, please move all of this into that thread.

Seth used to be a well known guy (As well known as you can be in fighting games in the early 200s) on the tournament scene in the early 2000s, he played a lot of SFIII and I'm sure he still plays the fighting games that come out a lot nowadays too as he is an amazing commentator at EVO.

No... just no. Tekken 6 takes more skill and knowledge to be played at a high level than any other fighting game of the current generation except MAYBE VF5. That's why it doesn't have a big tournament scene in the west too and whenever Korean or Japanese top players participate in a tournament they usually beat everyone convincingly. For example, Tokido, who is not a top Tekken player made it top 8 at EVO 2010 and 2011.
VF is dead because it's hard and looks boring.

It's like an easier GG, but it's also quite deep and balanced.

It's usually ranked higher than (S)SFIV(:AE) at Arcadia's top 10 monthly lists.
Edit: Latest list:
# 1 Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Extreme Namco / 266.7 pts.
# 3 BLAZBLUE CONTINUUM SHIFT II Arc System Works / 229.8 pts.
# 4 SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV ARCADE EDITION Capcom / 196.2 pts.
# 5 Virtua Fighter5 FINAL SHOWDOWN Sega / 153.3 pts.

Nevermind, that's still a staggering rise though.

I wouldn't really say a fighting game being balanced is a good thing. It would be stupid if it were ridiculously unbalanced like Akuma in SSF2T but if a game is very balanced then it gets boring to watch and play.

There's loads of good Tekken fighters around and there's only a handful of good VF5 fighters around. The difference between high levels and average players is way bigger.

ITs just because tekken is more for people interested in upskirts then decent fighting mechanics.
