Why are people acting like the online pass is a bad thing?

It's the lesser of two evils. Companies are going to do something to combat used game sales/piracy regardless now. I'd rather it add to the experience. Make the content available to everyone, and instead of paying 10 dollars just to play the full game, pay 10 dollars to get additional content that isn't a pre-order bonus if you buy the game used.

I feel that is a lot easier to live with and could be done in a way that you can lessen the outcry of people who say game companies release unfinished games and then charge for DLC that should have been included.

People are going to get pissed off regardless cuz you can't please everyone, but I feel this could be the best way to do it.

No, read my post properly for gods sake.

Not a single bit of the extra stuff is ingame content, every single person gets the same game experience no matter how/when/where they acquire the game.

That's the way it should be, everyone gets the same game but people who purchase it new get little unrelated perks.

Yeah the Witcher stuff was all external so to speak. There was some ingame pre-order DLC that the publisher insisted on but it was patched into the game for everyone a week after the game was released.

The extra stuff you got when you bought the game (in the regular edition so 35 pounds or whatever PC games usually cost for you) was stuff like a map of the game world, the soundtrack, a DVD with a making-of documentary, a full game guide, some papercraft templates printed on card, a little pamphlet thing with a short story on it and a replica of one of the coins used in the game.
The digital version of the game had all that stuff except the coin, you just had to download the pdfs and mp3s.

So none of it is crucial to the game experience and you're certainly not going to suffer without it, it's just a nice set of bonuses for people who buy it.

You guys are acting like poor people buying a used game at release which if you were doing here would save you about $2 if not even less, I've actually seen used copies of games being sold for more then full retail value, this is in a normal shop btw. In before someone says only idiots buy it at that price because the fact is if its got that kind of pricing enough people are buying for them to get away with it.

Secondly games price drop real quick now, using the poor people can't afford games argument is a load of bull wait 3-6 months and a game is less then half price. The online community is still booming. The fact people are literally trying to save a couple of dollars here and there by buying used when you can actually find the same game online brand new for less is bollocks.

In terms of piracy half the problem is caused by games getting delayed releases in different countries for no real reason. The fact some games get a 3-6 month delay of release between countries is ridiculous.

Personally I'm for codes to unlock in game content etc. in games when you buy them new. Its basically a little thankyou from the games company to the consumer. An example being buying and preordering Ken's rage i got a total of $20-30 free DLC, this was in total of preorder + in box DLC. This means there was an actual point to buying new. It also means whether I bought the game late or early i was paying the same cost overall. The things in the DLC enhanced the gaming experience but were far from essential. If i bought used and cheap later I wouldn't have complained either.

Oh yeah i also think this will mean used games are cheaper which is a good thing. Especially if you pick up games which have online that is shit or your not interested in or is just dead.

My local game is haunted by a hot girl, it doesn't really work there per se, but it wouldn't be the same without it you shoudl check it out.
