Not sure if many of you enjoy stuff like this, but still, let's discuss something different for a change. Give a list of your top five favourite movie scores/background music. You may post examples of each score too(in link form, let's not spam the topic with untidy embedded vids). List some honorable mentions in no particular order if you wish as well. My top five would be:
Number 5 - Under Fire - Jerry Goldsmith Number 4 - The Russia House - Jerry Goldsmith Number 3 - The Land Before Time - James Horner Number 2 - Hook - John Williams Number 1 - The Lion King - Hans Zimmer(oh the irony)
Hornorable mentions: - All Star Wars scores - John Williams - All Indiana Jones' scores - John Williams - Jurassic Park - John Williams - Batman - Danny Elfman - Lord of the Rings trilogy - Howard Shore - Mask of Zorro and Legend of Zorro - James Horner - The Beauty and the Beast - Alan Menken and Howard Ashman - How to Train Your Dragon - John Powell - Prince of Egypt - Hans Zimmer - Once Upon a TIme in America - The Mission - Ennio Morricone - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Ennio Morricone

Ah shit, I totally forgot to give LOTR scores honorable mentions, I'll edit 'em in now. Those ones were outstanding as hell, especially Return of the King's with its underscore using the subtle melody of Into the West at some points.
This track in particular was amazing(I embedded it since it's just one vid and not a part of my list, lol).

Only one track has ever stuck to me through out the years.

Yeah, the Matrix scores are really great too. Personally, I like most of their underscores than all the big, over the top tracks though. But even so, there is one particular grand motif I really like.
And Titanic's 'My Heart Will Go On'. This is probably the only movie that moves me to tears. I can't bear watching the first-class section of the ship and its treasures sinking.

Duel of the Fates by John Williams is probably my favorite.

It seems that this is mostly turning into a "what are your favourite tracks from film scores" topic than "what are your favourite film scores as a whole". Nothin' wrong with that though, makes it more interesting.

If i'm honest i don't know what is classified as a score and what is simply a soundtrack so i didn't really say much i only threw in PoTC as i've heard people refer to it as a score >_> and it has lots of instruments.

A whole film score is basically the original soundtrack for a film. Not to be confused with "soundtracks with songs/music inspired by the movie", those are comprised of all those craptastic pop songs to promote shitty bands.

The Dragon theme is most of the movie tracks, only one track isn't in that video

Y'know, even though I knew Jurassic Park had a wonderful underscore considering it is, after all, one of John Williams' greatest soundtracks, I never took the time to listen to those tracks much. I only really ever bothered enjoying the more famous tracks containing the film's two major themes.
This track in particular is really great(IIRC, the first half of it played during the triceratops scene and the other half played during, as its title implies, the brachiosaurus scene).
It really is breathtaking. While the main themes that everyone remembers best is the score's strongest material, the underscore really is a great listening experience too.

Welp, 2012 has been a good year for film music. There was:
James Horner - Amazing Spider-Man Michael Giacchino - John Carter Howard Shore - The Hobbit(didn't disappoint!) Mychael Danna - Life of Pi John Williams - Lincoln Alexandre Desplat - Rise of the Guardians Danny Elfman - Frankenweenie
And with all that the Academy will still probably pick some terrible choices for Best Original Score at the next awards.
