| Just watched this. I didn't get the ending. Was it Earth all along? | |

| I can't remember it that well. Didn't Tim Roth attack Wahlberg's monkey buudy who everyone else thought was a God or something weird like that? | |

| That was near the end. At the very end he leaves the ape planet and arrives back on Earth, but it's full of apes too. He lands at the Lincoln Memorial, only instead of Lincoln it's Thade (the Tim Roth character). | |

| The original one of the originals explained that it was Earth didn't it?
It doesn't seem possible in the new one though. He's part of some space crew, and there are some apes on his ship that they're teaching or experimenting on or something. They're exploring space or some shit, I can't remember. Anyway, he goes down to some planet, but goes through some weird storm which sends him into the future.
His crew land on the planet to look for him, but they don't go through the storm, so they land in the present, which is how the planet becomes populated with humans and apes in the first place.
Then at the end he leaves the planet and goes back to Earth, but Earth is now populated by apes too, and somehow there's a statue of General Thade there.

| well the whole thing was meant to be starated off by the fact very far in the future apes try to escape PoA when it explodes or something they hit the wormhole get sent back to earth present and due to some shit basically intelligent apes are born i'll explain more if you care
keeping that film in mind this film would still work

| But none of that is even slightly implied in the new film. It's all on some other planet somewhere, and then at the end, Earth has apes on it too. The exact same apes apparently. | |

well basically the reason this happens is they travel back in time get a kid and this kid is switched with a ape in the zoo so that he isn't killed the humans fear the apes and kill the intelligent ones the apes eventually emerge as intelligent they use them as slaves and integrated into society the apes rebel and win and then PoA is born not quite sure why technology is lost though

| You're still talking about the old films. The ape planet in the newer film is created when a space ship with humans and apes on it lands on some planet looking for one of their crew, who also landed on that planet but in the future. The apes just go nuts and escape and start killing the humans.
That planet can't be Earth. But then he goes back to Earth at the end it looks like it was supposed to be Earth all along, which makes no sense.

| But when he leaves the planet of the apes he goes back through the storm thing and back to the past. And it still doesn't explain why there's a statue of a character from the planet of the apes on Earth. | |

that does seem kinda odd does he definitely come back to earth at the same time only explanation that makes sense for that is he appeared back on earth sometime after his journey into space

| Rewatched it yesterday. The end makes no sense at all. I get that the worm hole threw Wahlberg, Pericles and CaLiMa into the future, but returning to earth to find Thade's statue and a Police dept of apes is just BS, like Burton though it'd be funny to leave us on something that leaves us confused. It's never alluded to at any point in the film that Apes went the other way through the storm as well, least of all Thade, yet the ending seems to suggest that they must have.
Even without the ending, it wasn't a great film, was it?

| I really think they were planning on remaking the whole series by the sounds of things
I almost feel that the ending was done in that nature so that ppl who they thought wouldn't get it, would get it was actually earth
either way sounds awful

| Yeah, I suspect it was meant as a setup to a sequel. | |

| No, it wasn't that good of a film. And the implied love triangle between Whalberg, that blonde chick, and the ape woman was just freaky. | |

| I was also puzzled as to how a small group of chimpanzees managed to turn into a large population containing what are clearly chimps, gorillas, and orangutans. Also not sure why they evolved into big apes rather than, you know, HUMANS. | |

like mentioned earlier the intelligent apes bred with the zoo animals inevitably this changed the species

dude its blatently part of the whole PoA thats why its got so many weird quirks in the storyline they most likely wanted to redo the whole storyline with indications of the future plotline throughout the film honestly if you want to understand what was going on read the film synopses of the original films and it all comes together
