Well, Baccano! is pretty cool. Condensed plot summary: Invincible people beat up mafia on a train. Maria Holic is also pretty good.

It's about a girl named Kanako, a lesbian who enrolls in a Catholic all-girls high school to find her soul mate. As soon as she arrives, she falls in love with her under-classman Mariya, who turns out to be a sadistic transvestite and dedicates his life to ruining Kanako's. It's really funny, if a little gag-heavy at times.
Then there's Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, which is awesome, basically giant mechs fighting each other and men bursting with testosterone. There's also Detroit Metal City, which I haven't watched, but it's about a teacher who wants to be a pop singer, but ends up in a death metal band.

Just watch Sailor Moon. It's one of the best animes ever made (especially the first season).
