Best game graphically this gen

Obviously GOW3, uncharted 2 and MGS4 are right at the top
but what do you think looks best on this gen?

This is pretty much correct. Cutscene FFXIII > all, but that's all prerendered so it doesn't count.

Uncharted 2's is better than FFXIII because I said so. FFXIII characters are emotionless and move around like retards too. YES I know it's more related to animating them and nothing to really do with the model's quality itself but Moose will obviously bitch about this minor thing and make a big deal out of it so I'm stating this here because my epic precognition warns me to.

No it doesn't. Graphics is graphics. Texture, draw distance, polygon count, etc.

Gaphics are just visual presentations. Everything matters in presenting the best that they can be. Just producing some decent model in a program like Maya doesn't cut it. It needs lighting, shadows(and I don't mean the filters slapped on the model itself) and finally it needs animation to bring life to the character.

Without any of those key elements, it's practically performing and looking at least 2 times less than it could be.

Hey, I'm just answering Buu's question about "What do you think looks best this gen." Considering animation and model tampering plays a role in actually making the graphics look good instead just being 3D images with random texture filters slapped on, Uncharted 2 simply looks better to me than FFXIII's cutscenes.

I'm a graphics whore, admittedly, and one of my biggest gripes this gen has been stuttering frame rates. Game that look awesome in still shots suddenly seem less impressive when you see them inmotion. The God of War III demo being a good example; everything looks lovely, the character models are fantastic, the textures almost unrivalled, the backgrounds crawling with detail, yet as soon as something happens the frame rate drops and it all looks a bit choppy. It's not enough to call them 'bad' graphics, but it doesn't half take the shine of things. Hopefully the full game remedies this somewhat.

I also think that there's a lot to be said for stylised graphics as well; in ten years time Okami on PS2 will still look great, whereas more contempary games will suffer. That's why I like things like Valkyria Chronicles. Technically it's no God of War admittedly, it's not going to 'wow' people watching it, but to my eyes it's every bit as good to look at. It's consistent throughout, it's wonderfully smooth, and looks like nothing else. Street Fighter IV is another, though I'd argue slightly less successful example, as it eschews realism for hyper stylsed visuals that will eventually age better than if they'd gone for ultra realistic character models. I don't think it always works, occasionally looking a bit too cartoony, but again it's unique and looks like no other fighting game. Ditto LittleBigPlanet. It's unstantly recognisable, despite on the surface being a fairly simply looking game. I guess there's a lot to be said for being distinctive in my book.

If I were pushed to make a definitive call, I'd struggle to narrow it down past half a dozen; Mass Effect 2 looks ace, despite a few characters faces looking a bit weird, God of War III is in with a shout if the aforementioned frame rate issue gets sorted out, Uncharted 2 is deeply impressive, as are the parts of Assassin's Creed II that i've seen, and of course MGS4 at it's best still looks cutting edge. Other very worthy shoutouts to Batman: Arkham Asylum, Bioshock and Resi 5, though that loses points for essentially being RE4 in HD. FFXIII I've not yet played, so I can't yet comment.

If you had a gun to my head... I'd say Uncharted 2.

Oh yeah, I forgot about LBP.

Something about that game looks ridiculously...well...REAL to me.

I actually yearn to play LBP...But I fear when I update the game, there will be a clusterfuck of huge files considering I haven't played in forever.
