I'm going to buy a PS3 this week

What games and extras should I get?

If you're planning to take it online, then Warhawk is a great multiplayer title.

In terms of PS3 exclusives then the big stand out is Metal Gear Solid 4, but depending on your likes / dislikes, then it's worth checking out Resistance 2, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, or Valkyria Chronicles.

Others multiformat titles well worth checking out include Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Soul Calibur 4, GTA4, Call of Duty 4 (which is better than World at War) or Saints Row 2. Many of those are easy to find relatively cheap now too.

Disgaea 3 hasn't been released in Europe yet.

Accessories: HDMI cable and a Dual Shock 3 controller
Games: MGS4 and SCIV

Actually, last I checked, Saints Row 2 is exclusive to the 360...

You don't need a HDMI cable if not playing on a HDTV.

No, it isn't. Saints Row was 360 only, but both PS3 and 360 got SR2.

On the subject of cables, then Kuriri's right that you only need a HDMI cable if you're planning to hook up to a HDTV, but I'd still make sure you get the best cables possible, be it component or RGB Scart. Even then if you're serious about your gaming in anyway, then consider buying a small HDTV screen, even something like a 19" 720p image would be a huge improvement on a SDTV. Just ask Nonny.

The PS3 is Region-Free.

The €300 PS3 was out of order, so I bought a PS3/Resistance 2 bundle for €400 and Uncharted for €30 along with it.

Out of principle, don't get it for the PS3. It's a lazy half arsed port of the 360 game, so the graphics are noticably weaker, the draw distance is shorter, etc.

I'm not sure about the rest of Europe, but over here the only B/C PS3s were the very first 60GB models. Everything after that, be it 40GB or 80GB, had the backward compatibility removed.

The 80gb had some backwards compatibility didn't it? Or did the UK not even get that?

Didn't you need to download something for it to work?

It's not really a problem though. I still have my PS2 and I'm not planning on selling it.
