So I was watching the Gohan's birthday episode for my sub/dub comparisons when this line came up in the SUBS:

Chi-Chi: When you were in that Room of Spirit and Time place, Gohan-chan turned 11 years old!

MY WHOLE BELIEF SYSTEM = SHATTERED

Good thing it's anime filler though.

In the manga he's still 9.

Not directly, I don't think. However, IIRC, it DOES explicitly say that seven years have passed since the battle with Cell.

From Daizenshuu vol. 7:

757 A.D., One day in May - Gohan is born
767 A.D., May 26th - At noon, the Cell Game begins

According to the daizenshuu volumes, he's 10 chronologically at Cell Games, BUT almost 11 physically (he stayed for a bit more than 10.5 months in RoSaT).

Moreover:

774 A.D., April 7th - There's a sighting of the Golden Haired Warrior in Satan City

So, at this point of the Buu saga, he's indeed 16 year (and almost 11 months) old chronologically and 17 year old and almost 10 months physically.

Raditz's arrival - 4 year old
Nappa and Vegeta arrive about 10 and half months later - 4 year and 10.5 months old
A few weeks before leaving for Namek, a month until they reached Namek and a week on Namek - 5 year old
260 days later everyone is revived - 5 years and 260 days old
One year later, Freeza arrived - 6 year and 260 days old
Three years later - 9 year and 260 days old
10.5 months in Room of Spirit and Time - 10 year and about 220 days old (physically)

7 years later... - 17 year and 220 days old (physically)

Of course since we don't know exactly the dates, it's not 100% accurate.

The anime is correct though.

Of course, he's 16 (but really close to 17) chronologically, but in fact he's already 17 due to spending 1 year in RoSaT.

I know what you mean Chou, and I'm not disagreeing with that entirely. Gohan is sixteen. How near he is to seventeen is irrelevant.

However, his body is aged further due to the time spent in the RoSaT. It doesn't count as actual aging, as it was still just one day, albeit in another dimension.

Trunks' hair growth indicates that the body aged in RoSaT like it had been a whole year and not a day.

What's your problem again with Gohan's body being 10 and 17 year old respectively instead of 9 or 16?

Hows about instead of going by bodies we go by the fact that toriyama says gohan is 16 and using simple math we know he had to be 9? What exactly does his body being aged have to do with anything anyway?
