Wanted it ever since I got a Vita in February. It was a launch title in Japan but it's taken forever to get to the west (although it was originally going to be download only, but that's changed now).

Just played the demo, and I want it even more now. It's not very often that I can say "I haven't done this in a game before", but I haven't done that in a game before. The gravity shifting works wonderfully and it's a lot of fun. Pressing R turns gravity off in your immediate vicinity, so you and anything around that's not bolted to the ground starts floating. Another press of R sends you "falling" in whichever way you're facing, and when you hit a surface gravity is oriented so that "down" is under your feet, wherever that may be.

The camera can get confusing when there's no real up or down, but pressing down on the Dpad centers it (puts the ground below you and the sky abovve you), which is a blessing. Pressing L reverts gravity to normal, but you can always stop your fall by pressing R again. Combat seems fairly basic, although the gravity kick is fun. Dodging is done with the touch screen, which is a tad annoying.

It has the best comic book style cutscenes ever too, because you can move the Vita around to tilt the panels, and every panel has a few layers that all move in sync. It's hard to describe, but if you holld the Vita still it just looks like a flat image, whereas when you move it around you can see that the characters are actually in front of the background, and the perspective shifts as you tilt left and right... It just looks very cool.

Now I have to wait another two weeks before I can get the full game.

Kula World was a puzzle game and the main character was a beach ball.

I didn't think you were one to judge people on their appearance

You're just standing around...

Gravity Rush (and Gravity Rush 2) 2012-256

Then you're floating around...

Gravity Rush (and Gravity Rush 2) 2012-257

Then you're falling upwards into the sky, dragging along whatever gets caught in your gravity field...

Gravity Rush (and Gravity Rush 2) 2012-259

Then you're standing around again. But upside down.

I get it. Give a ball, long hair, a revealing outfit, arms and legs and suddenly its a different game.

Could you do that in Kula World? I remember you could roll onto the underside of a cube, but that's it. There was no flying around.

This was £30 off the store, and it came with the pre-order DLC too. Sony's digital distribution is getting better.

Having played for a while now, the star of this game is definitely the world. There's a huge pillar in the center of the world that extends seemingly infinitely into the sky above and down into the darkness the below, and the city of Hekseville sprouts out around it, suspended on huge iron foundations built onto the pillar.

This is unlike any sandbox game I've played. I'm reluctant to even call it a sandbox anymore. There's only ever 1 story mission available at a time and everything else is just bonus challenges for upgrades. But you get used to it, and you're going along discovery new parts of the city and then you get to the final area. It's huge and it looks amazing and you can't wait to explore, and then the very next mission completely turns the story on it's head and things just go mental.

I'm only interested if they improve combat. The game had some amazing ideas but dive kicking for half the game kinda kills it. I'll probably try this out again closer to GR2 release and try and finish up those challenges.

Gravity Rush 2 has a really slow start, which bugged me, and so far it feels like a do-over rather than a sequel. The intro is just "We got sucked into a gravity storm and now we're in a new place", and the game goes from there with no connection to the first game. I can't actually remember much of the story of the first one but I remember the ending being incredibly inconclusive. Hopefully this one does better. The world looks a lot nicer but it's less creative. Just floating islands.

In Kula world gravity was always in the direction of the surface you were attached to so kinda, you just couldn't change gravity mid air.

The different powers are nice. Lunar makes gravity weaker, so you can jump really high and have faster aerial attacks, but it makes falling and sliding slower. Jupiter makes gravity stronger, so you slide and fall really fast but it's harder to control, and you have big dive bomb aerial attack. The stasis field and special attacks work differently for each power too.

Graivty Rush 2's online aspects are being deactivated on January 19th, and all the rewards that are online exclusive will be inaccessible forever after that. Which is incredibly dumb. Until then the amount of tokens you earn from online stuff has been increased, but there's probably almost no one still playing the game, so receiving challenges and stuff probably won't be so frequent.

Are there any important unlockables you can only get through this stuff. I realy am starting to get annoyed about online features in console games why bother if they won't be maintained.

There's a couple costumes and gems. Nothing too important. The final reward for the online stuff is a gem that gives you infinite gravity power, but it's shit because it lowers damage a lot.
