Whats up with items that you only need once in games

some items seem utterly pointless in games
and yet they insist on you having to carry them throughout the whole game on your first play through
which can get annoying in games where you have inventory limits
typical example of this is the infra red scope in RE4

IIRC apart from the first regenerator you can get past the others without even having to kill them
but on a first play through you wouldn't know this and hence have a fairly useless item on you the whole way way

In RE4's case, though it sounds tedious to kill the Regenerators, there's a good reason to kill them. And that's for the pesetas they drop, which they drop a good amount of. Iron Maidens drop the most, though.

They are a variation of regenerators, only they use a lot more spikes and they hit harder. You meet one just before you go up to the Communications Tower to get help from a helicopter later on.

Until you earn the secret weapons in the Mercenaries, it's better to keep your infra-red scope. By the time you get them, you can sell it and get a new one on another playthrough. Then you can sell it again for a little extra pesetas.

Iron-barred Key in Valkyrie Profile is another useless item the game makes you keep.

I like how in some games, like Oblivion, quest items are "weightless" or don't take up any valuable space...

i mean i like not having a limit
but its kinda unrealistic
i'd have needed a whole cavalry to carry the shit i had collected by the end of FFVII
