So i thought I'd play Shining Force 2

My nephew wanted me to show him how to play the first game, and I thought I'd actually try to finish the second one after having abandoned my playthrough years ago.

I already very much dislike Bowie to Max because I don't know why but he seems like a real kid. The characters have these really smug grins on there faces its annoying as hell.

Anyway story starts out with Slade a thief and blatently a future playable character stealing jewels from an ancient tower, this releases evil. The king faints due to something being released. Some demons are later released I think they call them a gizmo one possesses the king and is later expelled by Astral a really crap gandalf ripoff, who is extremely useless as now he has left everything up to me because the governor made all the soldiers leave the kingdom. The first game had you play as a knight in training who has to be a small stealth group of sorts and have to stop the invading force from getting a sacred artefact back to the bad guys. That storyline was waaaaaaaaaay better. This probably was a large part of why i got disinterested in this one.

Either way though this game is a shining force game i'm sure i'll still enjoy this, now i just need to remember if it was this or fire emblem where archers critical flying dudes.

Completed 4 battles now, the story still has yet to interest me apparently our allies have turned on us. The dialogue has such diamonds as why did you kill sir something and the enemy reply is ummmmmmmmmmmm.... Who thought that up >_>. Anyway the battles are fairly easay i've yet to find a standout character i like in this one I guess Jaha is pretty cool as he deals decent damage and no one else does and i always like mages in this game so Kazin is pretty decent for now till i get a better mage.

The story gets better, as do the characters. One of the best franchises SEGA ever put out.

So I got thrown in prison by the Galam army their king has blatently been possessed by the gizmo he is basically going to attack my home kingdom of Granseal. I had to escape prison I ended up getting slade and had to fight my way out of the castles having found a completely useless item (Chirrup Shoes), and then had to fight my way back to my kingdom. I picked up a new recruit Kiwi who IIRC is completely useless against mages, I'll think about using him later.

Returning to Granseal the town was devestated and I quote "BOWIE felt a pity".

After looking in the princess's closet. Freaking perv.

Alright so after returning to wartorn Granseal I went to the tower and the princess was kidnapped. She got sucked into the portal. Bowie got the jewel of light and darkness attached to his neck. Granseal got sucked into the ground. We left on the boat and crashed it into the shore to make a new granseal. After this had a couple of battles including one in dark caves a la pokemon.

Got a phoenix who took me to a god called volcanon he decided that i caused enough trouble and left so i have to defeat the demon menace alone. Found a blind boy, a birdman, a wolfman and Sarah Jessica Parker they all joined my team.

There was one ridiculous boss battle with this guy who was like 50 feet tall.

All i can say is i'm on the chess battle and I suddenly feel like promoting units at level 20 was a very very bad idea.

I genreally wait till 30 but that's me. You can grind in this game also. Kinda cheap to grind but its there if you want it.

Thats why i'm annoyed i didn't delay the promos I guess I can still get through battles i'm worried about hitting a wall though. I just got to the bit with creed i'm gonna grab the healer as i need a backup healer i'm getting kaned lately.

promotions should just be at a set level or they should make it clear whats a better tactic. I'll probably just replace all these fairly crappy characters with later ones anyway. Gutted about promoting my ninja/phoenix/wolfman/hero though as those I would of kept regardless.

Also what is it best to promote May into? That was who i was calling SJP if you didn't get it earlier.

Much better archers available. Too bad you promoted Bowie/Gerhalt/Peter so early as they are gamebreakers when properly developed.

Her stats are pretty good at the moment, due to the fact she's one of my highest level characters not promoted.

From what i've heard though, it doesn't make a diff if you get promoted too early on this because the game is so easy, well i'm finding it easy currently, 1 is definitely waaaaaaaaay better.

Yea it does get harder, but yea it's not like your game is broken or anything now it just wont be a bad-ass cake walk which is a good thing depending on how you feel like playing.

I don't think you got Janet yet but she is generally the best archer in my opinion (thought archers really aren't that necissary at all) I like to use her cuz archers can be fun.

I like to have one of each class. I think I have nerfed Sarah somewhat although in theory she can't be nerfed as healer gains XP from healing.

I'm gonna switch out kazin for a better sorceror later and I'll get a wizard later. Its why i'm pissed about the unique characters I know most of these guys are going to be switched out, i guess though the uniques in this are kinda lame and i don't like them as much in SF1 Zylo is possibly the greatest thing in a RPG ever, there was a cyborg, a steam knight, a crazy old man, a ninja, a samurai and a flying squid you just don't see that shit very often so i got fingers crossed something cool will pop up. As this game has the worst phoenix ever and kiwi is useless against mages.

Currently going to see Mitula, game seems to be pretty easy and Karna is stupidly easy to boost her level using the boost spell and healers just level like crazy without killing. Luke seems to be my strongest character for some reason and i never expected that.

Uh IIRC its Sarah a healer, Chester a knight and jaha a warrior, you get kazin very close to the beginning and may is around the 7th or 8th you get I think.

Anyway I killed Zalberg or whatever his name was and went into the town of Moun. The battles on the way and there were a lot harder and i did suffer casualties, but didn't actually lose any of them.

Just found a guy called Zynk which means i'll inevitably replace someone.

Owned Carmella she was really really pathetic. The next tricky fight was the one with the prism flowers i did suffer a lot of casualties in that one and the following fight against the red baron really was suprisingly not that hard. I got a bunch of mythril weapons after that only getting like 5 of my 15 mythrils getting top line weapons which isn't too bad i guess.

Fighting Gesp or whatever his name is. Getting up to him is easy i'll see if he himself is actually tough.

Geshp went down without too much trouble either, his pathetic army is what really cost him. I breezed through all the following battles, and ended up replacing geshalt with Zynk and Jaro with Chaz. Chaz seems kinda under developed for this final fight but i don't have a wizard so i'll have to use him. Also i suspect he probably he is the best one considering the SF games seem to love giving you super mages at the end who need more training.

I'm up to the Oddeye battle i'm guessing this will be a hard battle as there are crap loads of enemies and they all look strong.

EDIT: Suprisingly he wasn't too difficult again mainly due to terrible tactics against me. Also Bowie has stupidly high defence at this point it seems hard for the enemy to take him down.
