I dunno, I haven't watched it myself but fans mostly hated on it because of the Joker's look.

i just thought the absolutely mental version of joker they had in this was interesting

Dude, the old one got thrown into Arkham several times entirely because he was that mental.

Arkham is where just about all of Batman's enemies go to. That's what makes his rogue gallery unique - they're all twisted individuals.

Joker's the most twisted of them all.

The comics try to make a point of this and the cartoon makes a point of it too. He's every bit as mental as he is in the Batman, he just seems more reserved because of the suit and Mark Hamill's voice acting.

Joker's insanity varies. That's exactly what makes him the most insane. He "suffers" from extreme schizophrenia, all of his persona's being mentally ill, but all to varying degrees. He can also become sane, depending on how insane Bruce becomes (when he takes drastic measures and such). He's the yin to his yang or something.

And obviously B:TAS Joker couldn't be portrayed as insane as others, because there was a limit on just what he could do in a kid's show.
