That even though this is clearly superior to RE4, personally, I prefer RE4.

"Clearly superior"? How? Graphics and co-op? That's not that much of a difference to make it "clearly superior".

That statement makes no sense. RE4 is inferior yet you prefer it?

RE5 features better graphics, an actual plot (even Capcom refers to 4 as a sidestory), much more interesting dialogues, great characters, more weapons, treasures and emblems to find, infinite replayability, more modes, a vastly superior AI, better character/enemy models and the list goes on and on.
BUT, I prefer RE4 for a couple of reasons as:
How it handles the main characters: sure, Leon's cockiness and oneliners are ridiculous, but Chris is too damn apathetic except for a few instances. Jill, the leading female protagonist, while she's mentioned continuously (Excella actually makes fun of Chris about this;"Jill, Jill, Jill. You sound like a broken record, you know that? Just as single-minded as he said".) basically appears for like 10 minutes! Even Ada was handled better. Jill may have been better dead. Moreover, Sheva is insignificant.
Atmosphere: Too much action due to co-op and not even a creepy background music. Only the 5th chapter reminded me of the good ol' Resident Evil.
Co-op: Makes the game less scary and too action-packed.
I think Shinji Mikami's absence (former RE game series director; he had claimed he would cut his head off if RE4 was to be ported to PS2, but instead, he just left Capcom) hurt RE5 along with the racism accusations and outrage which forced Capcom to create an African partner - to accompany the white guy while killing the black people - and actually create an international Africa with black, Jews and Pakistani.
If Chris was alone, the game would have been better.
Here's one of the first trailers of the game back in 2007 when Sheva did not exist at all:

RE5 it's easier to get infinite ammo guns (Has infinite shotgun, handgun and tmp already and only halfway through second run.) RE4 it's a little harder because you have to buy it if I'm correct. RE5 you only have to complete a couple chapter parts and done.
Lol about that Jill thing, that was funny as hell but that fight was annoying.

The strategy guide reveals the early build of the game (when Sheva wasn't around):
rehorror.net/v20/resident-evil-5-prototypes
Notable differences:
-an assault rifle in 1-1 -different maps -every enemy is black -Chris' arm is bigger (I didn't think this was possible)
-many more female models -Majini attacking with furniture -a dodging system like RE3: Nemesis'

your forgetting a big thing
there was meant to be adrenaline mode in this
if you look the hordes in that preview are ridiculous, chris can also dodge
originally chris was meant to be able to slow down time for a second so you could plug a whole load of zombies at the same time
as much as i like RE5 that preview reminds me of what looked so cool

I mean, I love Sheva. But the game would have been better if she hadn't tagged along the entire time. That first trailer was damn near terrifying, Chris was getting fucking swarmed.
But don't complain about the trailers guys, Capcom always drastically changes the game by the release.

RE5 most certainly does not have more modes than RE4.
RE5: Mercenaries Campaign
RE4: Mercenaries Campaign Seperate Ways Assignment Ada
Also, RE5 has absolutely terrible ally AI. It is inexcusable for your ally to navigate so that you are between themselves and the enemy, then proceed to empty an entire clip of ammunition into your back. Something as basic as "line of sight" should be established well before the final version of a game is released. Ashley had line of sight DOWN. Point your gun at her? She ducks. Perfect.

The RE5 Mercs have though 10 characters, 8 stages, a solo and a duo mode. And with 4 more DLC modes I certainly prefer these than Ada's missions (especially the Assignment Ada).
As for the AI, I have no complaint. With upgraded weapons she's a beast. For instance, on 3-3 (Pro) with the PSG1 she killed almost every enemy.

RE5 Mercs has 4 characters with variations in equipment, whereas RE4 had 5 characters with pronounced differences. Besides, extra stages and a two player mode (on a game whose campaign is 100% co-op) doesn't really count as an "additional game mode."
I have no doubt that we will be charged for the DLC, so you can't fairly include it in a direct comparison to RE4, which included its extra game modes for free, and without an extended release date after the game came out.
